I don't read my replies

  • You can afford 64GB of DDR5.

  • There is no reason to cheep out on commodity pantry items. Quality flour, potatoes, rice, beans, frozen veggies, and canned goods are never going to break the budget and make a huge difference in meals.

You can afford the good flour.

  • You don’t believe that wealthier or stronger people can be abused?

Only the Sith deal in absolutes, but yes, I believe that the party with more power is likely to be the one who abuses. You may be aware that power is not just an indicator of abuse, but often the modality of abuse.

The idea that Depp chooses partners who are younger than his shoes, and still gets overpowered and outmatched, calls into question not only his masculinity, but his ability to function in the world.

  • Depp is bigger, stronger, has more money, wealth, influence, and power. To imagine Heard as the abuser, you have to impart her with supernatural ability, or concede that Johnny is the world's biggest pussy.

Johnny Depp is the turd in his own bed.

  • Low birth rates are a crisis for capitalism, not humanity. And if you count brown countries, it's not even happening.

Pension schemes are not a biological imperative.

  • A Demon Haunted World by Sagan should be taught in school.

Go Tell it On the Mountain by Baldwin is such a beautiful work of fiction that you could totally miss the profundity of it's themes.

  • The problems with this book are not just "a product of it's time". There were authors at the time who could write women characters, Heinlen just wasn't one of them.

This was my favorite book when I was in my mid 20s. I tried to read it a couple of years ago and just couldn't.

  • I prefer the Marvel-type superhero movies where they don't take everything so seriously and pretend that the premise isn't ridiculous. I guess I just wonder "why so serious"?

Batman isn't an interesting character. His flamboyant rouges gallery is essential and I think a gritty/ realistic Batman-villain undercuts that.

  • You don’t accidentally squeeze a trigger hard enough to fire.

Yes you do. What do you suppose trigger discipline is for?

It's trivially easy to accidentally discharge a firearm. People kill their loved ones like this all the time. Guns are dangerous and their presence is a mortal threat to everyone around them. Responsible gun ownership is an oxymoron.

  • The best gadget are bowl scrapers. I use them more often than knifes.

  • This is not such an interesting question anymore because it's a trope to blow the budget on recognizable songs in a shit movie.

But if your looking for the biggest difference in quality, I'd say Singles (1992) Not that the movie is bad, just that the soundtrack is legendary.

EDIT: also because the best tracks are original recordings and not just a playlist of already popular songs.

  • I've got a low-energy Intel Atom server. The CPU is technically 64 bit, but some of the other hardware is still 32bit, limiting you to that.

I've been running Debian on it (and several predecessors). I'm stuck on Debian12 because they're dropping 32bit support after that.

I don't really use it to "self-host" other than as a file server for backups and Pihole.

  • If you read the article, this is a very specific legal question. And honestly, it's too gross to contemplate, and having a strong opinion about this on the internet is rightly suspicious.

The good news is the criminal in this case didn't just posess CSAM, and no matter how this shakes out, they going to jail.

  • In America, we have three kinds of organized crime. Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.

  • That's just the Air Traffic Controller new-hires that got lost on the way to the tower.

  • Openly admiring Aurelius or stoicism is a big red flag. Nothing inherently bad about that philosophy, but it tends to appeal to a certain type who tend to think stoicism is just the serenity prayer duct-taped to an overwhelming sense of superiority.

  • The Lord of the Rings films, do have their own flaws,

How dare you? Take it back!

  • It's important to salt the eggs like 15min before cooking.

The corn starch thing reminds me of Cantonese scrambled eggs. Eggs are cooked in a wok on high heat. The curds are repeatedly dragged up the side of the vessel forming layers of fully formed and custard textured curd. The end result is similar to a French omelette, without all the fuss and technique.

I use a non-stick pan tilted over the burner to replicate this. I pour the eggs in, wait for a curd to form, then pull it up to the side of the pan that's off the burner. Allowing the liquid to run back down. Do this repeatedly until the eggs are as firm as you like.
