I don't read my replies

  • This is a false choice between huge lifestyle changes for everyday people and regulating the polluters. Regulating the polluters is going to cause huge lifestyle changes for everyday people.

The idea that any of us get to go on as usual is the main roadblock to meaningful climate action.

  • It's astonishing that you believe you ever had any agency, but thanks for being honest.

You must understand that your engagement may improve your suggestions but the ultimate beneficiary is a trillion dollar company. The creators have a chance to be compensated for adding value to the platform, but you're working for, I don't know, vibes?

  • It's likely that Homer didn't author the Odyssey, but rather wrote down the oral tradition that already existed.

  • I don't understand why the dislike button is important. Do you feel like you've lost agency over the algorithm? Or do you value the opportunity to publicly disapprove?

Perhaps you trust that a like/dislike ratio is correlated to video quality.

For my part, like, share, and subscribe are just different buttons in the Skinner box that is algorithmic entertainment. "Engagement" is free labor for to improve algorithms and train "AI".

  • The old rule depends on all radiation being harmful. The science is that low levels of radiation are harmless and perhaps even beneficial. The new rule recognizes the science.

There are cities, Tehran is an example, where the background radiation is higher than what workers are allowed to be exposed to. These locations do not have elevated cancer rates.

The old standard causes harm. There are many cases of elderly Japanese people who suffered greatly, even died, because they were evacuated from their homes to protect them from developing cancer in 40 years.

  • People don't understand that feminism is less about who pays on the first date, and more "please stop raping us".

In the 1970s rape was basically legal in all 50 states. From colonial times until then, every husband was immune from charges of rape so long as the victim was his wife. In other cases of rape you could not, by law, bring charges unless there was a corroborating witness. The "lying bitch" defense was automatic and statutory.

By the mid 90s, marital rape was criminalized in all 50 states, but some states still have higher burdens of proof, and/or less jail time.

For those who think this is all in the past, clearance rate for rape charges today is in the low single-digits.

  • This isn't fair. Madagascar is 592,800 square kilometres. You shouldn't discriminate against prompt engineers in their studies before they've even had a chance to take those future-skills into the workforce. In 2024, Madagascar was estimated to have 32m residents. The professor should be ashamed.

  • Anybody with a passing interest in modern military could have told you this. You don't want to use an interceptor worth $2m to shoot down a drone that costs tens of thousands, unless it's heading for something vital. Remember too that an interceptor system can't just be purchased in unlimited quantities, so in the short term a fired missile is one less you have for tomorrows threats.

Ukraine and Russia have been doing this math every day for like 5 years.

  • is their a meaningful difference between open weight and open source?

  • It's the Zionists themselves who've inspired violence against Jews worldwide. It's the Zionists who insist Israel and Jews are the same thing. It's the Zionists who insist on Israel being a murderous kleptocratic theocratic tyranny. It's Zionists who "inspire" the backlash.

  • Andrew Tate is in SHU.

  • $15.5B dollars, invented out of ether, and bestowed on the lucky gamblers. The stock market is so efficient that it can create wealth without bothering with economic activity. No jobs created; no products produced; and nothing to trickle down.

  • This guy isn't for working people! Did you know he comes from a wealthy family and attended 75K/year boarding schools? Just kidding, I'm talking about Platner.

  • Elon mad because he's being exploited for other people's profit. Delightful.

  • "I reject the tax that can pass, but support the tax that's impossible" is the same thing as being opposed to the tax.

  • Don't forget our ally, the authoritarian theocracy that already has nukes. All of Israel's neighbors understand that nukes are the only thing that keeps Israeli fighter jets out of your country.

Ironically, a nuclear armed Iran and Saudi Arabia may lead to more stability in the region by being a check on Israeli (and US) aggression.

  • When discussing conservative women, it sure would be nice if all you "leftists" would remember that this isn't the opportunity to air your misogyny. Thank you.

  • I don't understand why bigots who use anti-discrimination laws to shield themselves don't just die of irony.
