I don't read my replies

  • It probably has something to do with using a gun.

The 2nd amendment only protects your right to purchase and own a gun. Not only is using a gun often illegal, it's grounds for summery execution. You know, freedom.

  • A corrupt system is not a space where corruption is permissible, it's a space where corruption is mandatory. And by corruption I don't just mean graft. The ability to ignore Trump's lies comes at the cost of corrupting your ability to perceive reality. As people who have family members in MAGA or Qanon know, people vanish into the upside-down where school shootings are fake, but pizza pedos are real.

Having an "it's complicated" relationship with reality means being estranged from competence.

  • voting with your wallet

I'm terrified how many people think buying and selling stuff is moral, civic, and democratic duty. Econ 101 doesn't even work in economics, why are we applying it to everything?

  • I had an opportunity to socialize with some young people recently and the one thing that struck me the most was how far ahead the girls were in social skill and maturity.

I don't think this has anything to do with sex difference or nature. I think that girls are simply expected to pay attention to other people and boys aren't.

I don't exempt myself, I was a solipsistic goblin at that age.

  • fig1. example of US troops being creative about punishment.

  • This isn't a weapon, and probably won't work as intended either.

"Space lasers" don't work over long distances because the light spreads out. (inverse square law) A pinpoint laser is almost 2m wide when pointed at a low flying aircraft.

Increasing intensity doesn't work because you'll need a) a Dyson sphere level of energy input. or b) a mirror big enough to occupy a significant fraction of our orbit.

This is just "data center in space" fiction

  • Is Israel and Zionism not bad enough in reality that you have to write an Oliver Stone script to jazz it up? Is genocide too boring?

  • NES & SuperNES. Because that's how old I am.

  • Socialism n.

    1. when the government does stuff.
    2. the thing Nazis were
    3. what they teach at university.
    4. everything bad the Soviets ever did.
  • unfortunately, Windows is integrating AI into core apps by using AI to code. Microslop has promised that the next version of Windows will be agenic first, which means Windows will be a feature of Copilot, not the other way round.

At that point the only script that'll strip the AI out will be: shutdown /s /f /t 000

  • Did they fix the bug where Ublock Origin doesn't work?

  • Critical thinking is great, but none of us can sustain it perpetually. Shortcuts and heuristics are the way we actually evaluate the world.

The good news is that self-awareness will improve your ability to detect deception regardless of the quality of the lie. learn what kind of deceptions ring true to your ears, and you'll be less credulous. Be doubly suspicious of the things that confirm your priors.

  • If you really think that the minutia of white-supremacy is common knowledge, you're in a bubble. Sealed off from mainstream (white) culture.

Everyone knows that it was taboo (and after Nat Turner illegal) to educate enslaved people. What isn't such common knowledge is the current project of white-supremacists is 'White Innocence' if your being polite, or 'White Ignorance' if your not.

They labor day and night to keep white people incurious and out of touch. Entire news organizations, newspapers, influencers, even radio broadcasters make it their business to lull white people into believing that anti-colonial struggle is irrational and savage; that racism is an artifact of a bygone era; and that state violence is necessary and good.

The ironic part is that for POC, all this is obvious basic knowledge. But in the white world, it's esoteric and mysterious.

This is the main reason I hate white supremacy. Not because I'm a good person or an ally to the oppressed. I've always known white supremacy was bad for those people. I didn't get aggravated until I realized they were keeping me ignorant and out of touch.

  • No bubble burst has ever been a surprise, only the timing is a mystery. It's obvious to the casual observer that the US stock market is a sandcastle. And not just AI exposure, but wildly overvalued tech stocks. Everyone knows that a correction is coming, and it's going to be brutal.

  • Look to the wiki link in my previous post for details, but the basic procedure was to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, shut down, install the new card, boot up and install the AMD drivers (there is a command to automatically detect your card and select the appropriate driver from the repos), and update the bootloader. I ended up having to do the second half through SSH, but otherwise a pretty painless process.

  • I switched from an Nvidia to AMD on catchy. There are instructions in the Wiki. https://wiki.cachyos.org/features/chwd/gpu_migration/

It worked for me with only one issue. When I booted up the first time, I had no signal to the monitor. No big deal, I just used SSH from another computer to install the AMD drivers and update the bootloader.

  • Even more so if your tastes change over time.

This is a challenge. I've grown on hip-hop and rap, and finding the media is a struggle. For example, the first 'Run the Jewels" album is basically unavailable on CD.
