as alive as you need me to be

  • Just want to let everyone know the dipshit in the picture accidentally shot himself in the face while attempting to be 'security' for a drug deal in the 90s.

Also, he wears the eyepatch because he got tired of cleaning his glass eye, and the socket got badly infected.

Fuck Stewart Rhodes, right where you shouldn't.

  • Oh my bad i forgot to add masochist to my list

  • If you are still using Windows 11, for enterprise, and things like this surprise you... you are an idiot, and are bad at your job.

  • Again, this is literally one dimensional thinking.

Instead of imagining bad <-> good as... a number line, -10 to 10, or whatever...

Imagine bad as x, good as y, and an x y graph.

Some actions can cause some bad, much good.

Some actions can cause much bad, little good.

No bad, much good, or no good, much bad.

In the real world, which is quite complex, there are very rarely actions or situations that are purely good, or purely bad. More often, it is a mixture of both, and everyone has their own moral scales for judging the magnitude of 'bad' and 'good'... many likely have even more than just two dimensions to their 'moral model'.

This is part of why, in English, we have the phrase 'moral calculus'. The phrase itself implies that trying to 'compute' morality is not straightforward, it is complex, with different approaches to reaching a 'solution'.

  • Only if you think in one dimension, absolutes.

  • Less bad != better

  • You are insanely aggro for basically no reason.

Never said he was a scientist. Showed that he hires scientists to make use of his toys.

Yep, he's a billionaire, thats bad, i'd prefer he'd just give every steam user a proportional refund with his excess money, that would do more practical good.

Yep, promoting/facilitating gambling to/for kids is in fact immensely shitty and should be stopped, victims should be compensated.

Yep, owning a small fleet of megayachts is very bad for the climate, very selfish, frankly ridiculous.

    There, are you satisfied?

Done assuming my thoughts and positions?

  • Yep.

Steam is a functional monopoly, but... I'd argue it didn't get there by being underhanded, ratfucking competitors secretly or brazenly.

It just is better. It offers far more things, to both consumers and developers/sellers.

Think from an indie dev perspective. If your game is actually good? Finds a niche? You don't need marketing, basically. You don't need to budget that, Steam will do it for you. AAA gaming is basically like fucking movies at this point, sometjing like 1/3 the budget goes toward building the hype train, not the product.

Attempts to outdo or directly compete with Steam have just actually been comically incompetent, from at least my own business analyst perspective.

Yeah, it has contract terms it enforces on sellers, but imo, they're far less restrictive than say, platform/marketfront exclusivity, as had long been the norm in the video game industry.

Room for improvement? Absolutely. Functionally gambling on in game items, children doing this, is a legitimate problem. Afaik the court case with NY is still ongoing, will be interested to see how that pans out.

  • Elon also had staff who described their actual job as essentially jangling keys in front of Elon, because he has a tendency to just randomly have an insane idea and decide everyone is doing that now.

So, they had to distract him from making too many stupid decisions, fucking up workflows and procesesses. He's just an idiot, who's probably mildly aspy/autistic, and that got PR transformed into 'quirky genius'. But look into what happened at PayPal, or Tesla, anything. He's incompetent at anything other than corporate ratfuckery, he's never coded or designed anything novel or useful.

This uh... was from Tesla, a decade ago. Now of course, its all sycophants.

Compare that to Valve's odd, flat-ish hierarchy, 'just work on something cool and be useful' work culture.

Gabe has been known to occasionally bring the hammer down, but the vast amount of Valve's style, intentionally created and maintained by Gabe is... hands off. Hire the actual best, they'll direct themselves, kind of thing.

Ain't perfect, but... probably a lot less of an insane tyrannical bastard than Elon.

  • What I've heard is he wanted to refit the yacht that he bought, so it could support a deep sea submersible.

So... to expedite the refit, he essentially just bought the entire dockyard, the company that owns it. Literal fuck you money lol.

And he does legit use that yacht/remote submersible to sail out to deep seas, exploring the hadal zones south of Japan, other places.

As I've said in other threads, dude is just actually playing Subnautica IRL.

I think these are all ... revolving around the same ship, not 100% sure.

Yeah he's a billionaire, but he at least seems to be an old school tycoon in the sense of... doing actual philanthropy, instead of fancy accounting fraud / money laundering with a non profit happy face on top.

Also, barely anyone knows much about this, so... probably not a naked ploy for positive PR?

    EDIT:

If he buys an entire island, or starts trying to do 'sea-steading', then we should be concerned.

That shit is... insane diamond hands crypto ancap fucking nonsense, unless or untill someone actually comes up with an actual well thought out plan... So far all I've seen is complete idiocy at being anything than an elaborate fraud.

If Gabe goes full Andrew Ryan/Cave Johnson, then yeah, we have a problem.

To my knowledge... he basically just has more money than he knows what to do with, so he tries to fund things that would be difficult to fund otherwise, that he also finds neat.

He's also basically founded a seemingly much more legitimate than Elon's neuralink type thing, that does novel research into BCI/brain implants, but like, targetted at actual medical breakthroughs, not like, trying to make a mass consumer general use product.

    https://starfishneuroscience.com/

Judge for yourself of course, I've not deeply looked into these things, just apparently a bit more than most.

I can say that I haven't heard of any pigs or monkeys being horrifically tortured, so that's probably good.

  • You gotta live.

Be your own advocate for not being dead, lol.

Sucks, but impossible situations rarely have Disney endings irl.

Bro sounds like a proper fucking maniac, yikes.

Intentional violent animal abuse/murder is like, number one giant fucking red flag for 'probable psycho killer'.

You are definitely correct to get as far as fucking possible from that.

  • Unironically, use DeleteMe or something similar.

They ain't gonna 100% scrub you out of like, the NSA's databases, but all those public databrokers, that you can pay $5 or w/e, to do a 'background check'? Yeah, they'll get you off 99% of those, with enough time.

(Now probably, such services themselves could be storing and then making available your data... but net net, to far less people, basically.)

Obv get a new phone number, new bank account. No corpo social media. 0. None. Other online presence? Never be too specific about personal details, trash accounts if you need to.

I... was homeless for years, lost everything, people probably think I'm dead.

Probably don't emulate that precisely, lol, but uh eventually, try to get a new... every kind of traceable of linkable number, of any kind, basically.

That will work against basically everything short of them hiring a PI.

Psycopaths tend to be spur of the moment, not so great with consistent, long term sustained effort. Narcissists will mostly just be offended you're no longer around to neg and bully, you're beneath caring about.

To pre empt the 'force you to appear in court' thing, file a restraining or no contact order when you get to new place. Chances are a medium sized town/city will have some kind of pro bono / non profit legal assistance organization to help you with that, hear your concerns, recommend a specific course of action.

They may also be able to help with the 'PI gets hired to find you scenario', but that could be... well if no have no contact orders, theoretically that should, in most places, considerably frustrate any... attempted actual use of any knowledge a PI might gain.

Hakuso has very good advice for not leaving a transaction trail that can be followed... the internet thing they're doing is probably technically illegal so maybe dont do that exactly lol... uh, if you can get a 5G based home internet router modem mabob, well those are literally overgrown phones, and their ips often register as being geolocated at a kind of 5g net center thats not actually that close to you. That and/or use a vpn, always, would be some probably more legal ways to confuse an attempt at finding you via the net, from everybody other than like, the NSA or whatever.

    Most importantly...

    Remember to breathe.

You got this, just stay cool, keep breathing.

  • C Suite and most of management are so fucking full of themselves, they do not realize how incompetent they are.

For them, its mostly just about feeling big, important and in charge, able to excercize power over their minions, blame them for their own failures.

They're basically cosplaying as businessmen/women at this point, the actual work is ancillary, the more important thing is the lifestyle, the performance of being better than others, the performance of 'im an important business leader'.

These morons are broadly comically inept at doing their actual jobs, the things they are ostensibly paid to do. Any objective outside observer could conclude this. These clowns ae just addicted to feeling important, superior, better than you. They forgot what accountability and consequences feel like.

  • Did you ever have a furby?

As agameanonymous says... there are many... unsettling quirks about having one long term.

    I had one.

Woukdn't stop fucking yammering, clattering its beak, clicking its eyes.

Took it outside, doused it in fire accelerant, burned it till it stopped making noises.

  • The woe of mortals is a shared delicacy, some other mortals appreciate it as well.

  • If you time travel and take out the ENIAC, you likely deprive the US of working nuclear weapons during WW2.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ENIAC

ENIAC was designed by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory (which later became a part of the Army Research Laboratory).[7][8] However, its first program was a study of the feasibility of the thermonuclear weapon.[9][10]

    ... choose wisely.

Can you predict what would have happened, then?

    ...are you sure?

  • Cleary they value more than the mere material currency of this realm.

  • Companies are actively selecting for fraudsters and liars.

If they are too stupid to realize this, fuck em, they'll burn themselves down.

  • Can we send him pizza?

    Beans, maybe?

    What a galatically stupid asshole.
