Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Promotes use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • I’ve been using jetbrains for many years. I believe I have cursed at their products over 1000 times, opened or tracked issues, seen bugs take many years to be fixed, lived with other bugs.

    I’ve seen how their adaptations for AI broke many things that worked; I’ve learned, over many years, to subscribe, but use products that are released in the fall or winter because there are too many bugs earlier in the year. So often my copies are not new.

    Yet I never have found a replacement I like better.

    His total worth must be north of a billion dollars, given how long he has been in power. It’s distributed across family and hidden in dozens of ways.

    I’m happy with my move to lemmy. There are some rough areas in the tech and definitely some personalities to watch out. But I think the experience is good

    It’s going to take far more than that

  • It cannot be taken down unless there are many changes in several countries; however it will be quite the achievement to reform or have revolution in only one or two countries in the next generation.

    The only hope in all this is that technology changes, and what Google has control over will be obsolete in a decade or more.

  • I do not use AI to code; but I have been programming for two generations now.

    I’ve taken a few breaks in that time, and switched technologies at least ten times also, and it’s very easy for me to forget a lot.

    Programming is like any skill, it requires constant practice.

    Am I a good programmer? Probably not that skilled, but I’ve written over a million lines of code and have run the gamut of architecture from: “Break this large file into 500 lines each, now we call that as a function” to “all numbers are object oriented” to “if it works great”

    I know this because while I have not had an account there for a while; when I was there, I networked with others to know trends of how they connected

    I don’t think this preference has changed , and probably even more use old now
