Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Promotes use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • We are talking about one of most openly criminal politicians in the USA. He has spent decades stealing from Texas. He just does not get paid in money to his bank accounts.

    His total worth must be north of a billion dollars, given how long he has been in power. It’s distributed across family and hidden in dozens of ways.

  • It cannot be taken down unless there are many changes in several countries; however it will be quite the achievement to reform or have revolution in only one or two countries in the next generation.

    The only hope in all this is that technology changes, and what Google has control over will be obsolete in a decade or more.

  • I do not use AI to code; but I have been programming for two generations now.

    I’ve taken a few breaks in that time, and switched technologies at least ten times also, and it’s very easy for me to forget a lot.

    Programming is like any skill, it requires constant practice.

    Am I a good programmer? Probably not that skilled, but I’ve written over a million lines of code and have run the gamut of architecture from: “Break this large file into 500 lines each, now we call that as a function” to “all numbers are object oriented” to “if it works great”

    I know this because while I have not had an account there for a while; when I was there, I networked with others to know trends of how they connected

  • Yea, it’s nice; I’ve coded with it.

    Rails just never hit the mainstream. That might be because it never had many powerful sponsors. There are some clever people and big companies that think it’s good to use. But I think the support is too scattered to attract an increase of use, so it languishes in the ecosystems.

    And having hundreds of well maintained libraries will be the only way it can get popular now. And it cannot attract the new programmers in sufficient quantity to do that. And it cannot increase its sponsors until it has it.

    So, it will remain a very cool thing most people won’t use
