you only had those things if you were in a poor school district. also probably half your teachers or more were drunk townies who had no interest in educating you and were just there to relive their glory days as high school atheletes forever and ever.
if you were in a rich one you had great books and great teacher and tons of supplies.
the key to american education is to have parents who have a lot of money and put you in private school, or can afford a town with million dollar homes where the public school is excellent,
simple don't be born to a poor family and you won't have a shitty education, and if you have to be born poor, at least do so in a major city where you can get into an exam school. major city exam schools are frequently rated as the best schools in the country, on par with the richest suburban school districts.
don't. i tried to go last weekend and the traffic was so bad it took two hours. basically just got a bite to eat and went home because it was so miserable and crowded.
it's not sleepy anymore at any time unless dead winter and the weather is awful.
i used to like to drink because it was fun and tasted good.
now most places serve the same shitty drinks that are not worth the crazy prices they charge. very few places offer worthwhile alcohol service anymore. every place has like the same 8 drinks they push. it's boring to drink the same boring flavored drinks over and over. $20 for a shot of cheap vodka and a ginger beer and a squirt of lime juice is utter insanity. esp when i can go to another bar and pay that same price and get an actual good cocktail with a unique and interesting flavor.
cocktails are 20 bucks plus tip. still half the price of beer. more than an appetizer and almost as much as an entree at this point.
basically 25 bucks for a single drink at your average bar. fancy places high end you're talking closer to 30-40 per drink, which at that point you might as well start just ordering the $200+ bottle of wine, as it will be cheaper.
and every bar around me is packed most weekends, because where i live people don't think twice about blowing $500 eating and drinking in a weekend. but then they all cry about how poor they are... yeah it's hard not to be poor if you are drop 2,000 a month on booze and eating out every month.
i had a renter a few years ago who would come home shitfaced every weekend and then not pay the rent for like two weeks. they were shocked when I terminated their lease 60 days later.

if you read a book from 1960, it won't have any info from the past 60 years. what they do, is typically re-issue the book with the new info every 5-20 years, depending.
they are putting out new editions of books i read in college 20 years ago, that include updated citations and scholarship.
Everyone wants a cheatcode at life. But there is no cheatcode for learning things. You have to do the hard work, which is hours and hours of boring repetitive stuff. That's how your brain works and improves and retains information, from repetitive exposure. That's why living in a foreign country massively accelerates your language skill, because you're constantly exposed to the language intead of working in an isolated way for like 30m each day.
It's hilarious that people agree with the 10,000 hour rule for learning guitar or something, but magically think that rule shouldn't apply to school work. You know what it also applies to, physical fitness. Nobody can cheat at getting faster or stronger without doing hours and hours of hard training, and nobody thinks it's problem for kids to spend 20 hours a week at football practice... but god forbid we think students should need to study 20 hours a week...
Like we know what works. Americans, teachers and students both, are just pathologically lazy and want to shortcut and cheatcode everything. Meanwhile the students who are learning and successful put in the time and the effort. And of course everyone else resents those kids and mocks them as losers.
Even my own nephew spent a good chuck of his graduation mocking and deriding the top performing kids as losers with no lives, meanwhile he's a B+ student who spends 30 hours week paying video games and whining how he isn't a better student and life isn't fair... and if you try to point out to him that being a A student would require less video games and more studying, he gets angry and tells you he wants to have 'have fun'. OK buddy, you made your choice then, and you got your results. He is under the delusion he's B+ average should have gotten him into MIT or something because he is 'cooler' than the kids who studied way harder.

When I describe my 10 year old life to other folks they tell me I was an abused child.
Mostly because I spent a lot of time out in the woods with my friends and playing video games, and apparently that's 'abuse/neglect' by today's standards for children. I was supposed to be doped up on meds and have every moment of my childhood filled with 'productive activities'. Probably why I am not depressed and anxious like many of my peers.
Apparently letting your children have unsupervised unstructured time is child abuse now.
