what? I literally just bought it 3 weeks ago. That number is going to be high because I only have 4 games.
I will buy more games as time goes by and that cost will go down. That's how math works.
I also bought a PS5 four years ago, and only had a few games for it for the first few months.... that's how buying consoles/games works. Now I probably have like 50+ games for it, but it's been years.
Yeah, amen for articulate intelligent folks providing history, culture, and context that illuminate the truth of the situation.
Total antithesis of all the dummies on lemmy who just want to hate on things because it makes them feel smart and strong.
wild that the meme community here is more informed than the nitwits in the technology community who just spam that game companies are diabolical and evil.
Depends on when you buy the game. New retail games on steam deck are still 50-60 bucks.
I can also find massive discounts on digital games on switch. I just bought like a bunch of $5 or less games on the last eshop sale.
Does Zelda and Mario go on sale for $5? No. They go on sale for like $30-40. I also just bought Mario Odsyessy for $40.
I'm happy to pay these prices. Cool if you are not? Lots of people buy shit I would never spend my money on. I haven't bought a gaming PC in 15 years, because it me it seems like a huge waste of money and time.
Almost as if other people have different preferences, and priorities than you do? And they are happy to buy products you are not.
But it's inconvenient and expensive and takes up space. So most folks choose not to do that for pragmatic reasons. Physical media still is broad available for books and music. Less so for films and TV shows, but many are still available in physical formats at online retailers.
I have a lot of physical books, like 500+. People tend to be quite negative about it and have so for a long time, because the popular conception is that physical media is stupid and wasteful. A lot of people take pride in owning nothing physical and regard that as 'minimalism' and are more than happy to purchase digital rentals or subscriptions only to further this aesthetic.
But it makes no sense to continue to produce physical media if only a niche audience is buying it, unless the product is niche, cheap to produce and has a high mark up. That's why Vinly works, folks are willing to pay $30 per record and records cost pennies to physical reproduce.
Yep. I'm just an idiot. It's not like I'll go back to the store ever again and I'm a regular customer.
They are clearly ENTRAPPING ME. Just like all the times I returned a product and they gave me a full refund, that was also total entrapment. Or when I returned a product for a warrenty fufillment and they replaced it, also entrapment.
because folks are bitter about they still charge $60 for a 10 year old game.
I'm not. I bought a switch 2 last month and Zelda BoTW for $70. It's great. But what do I know, I'm a morally bankrupt bootlicker or something, because I was happy to spend my money on something that I am enjoying.
it's not super common but a couple times a year i will buy something and the price drops a week or two later and you can contact them to get a gift card for the difference. you aren't going to get in in cash or credit in 2026 though. it's 30 days from date of purchase for all the places i have done this for.
americans voted for this. they wanted to be fleeced.
everyone told them tariffs were stupid, and they told those people to f off, they know better and Trump is a Really Smart Guy Who Knows What He Is Doing.
lemmy seems to have a hard on for painting Nintendo particularly as this awful terrible corporation. Most likely because they are bitter they won't lower their game prices. And they turn it into this weird moral issue and compare them to Steam as if Steam is the 'good guy' and Nintendo is the 'bad guy'. it's basically virtue signalling over consumer choice or something, instead of political issues. because only bad stupid people would ever own a switch or something.
I mean, cool. I don't buy a lot of shit from a lot of companies because I also don't find their pricing and business model appealing. But it's not a moral issue in any way. There are far worse examples of course, too. Jeep makes objectively shitty cars for decades, but people keep buying them, and complaining about how they are shitty, for the lifestyle image/cool club they think owning a Jeep puts them in.
But you're 100% right and basically no company is giving customers refunds over any of this because it's already enough of a clusterfuck as it is to get their own refunds. But hey, let's not let complex and costly reality get in the way of idealistic consumer entitlement over like $20 bucks, which even if they could give people the refunds, it probably would among to very little money. Even more hilarious is that folks who never bought the product still seem to think they should get a refund from Nintendo because they had a Gamecube 20 years ago.
It's not fine. and it is a pandemic, due to the hyper fueled social media gender war bullshit that so many single people consume. it's also escalating. 10 years ago nobody was, on a first date, telling me in my face what a piece of shit I was to my face for not having a high enough salary for them, when my salary is higher than theirs, now that's like every 4th woman I meet, and pretty much every other woman i meet demands to know my 'stats' off the bat.
it is not a small subset of women at all, it's the vast majority of dating profiles I see who loudly and proudly declare their sexist double standards and abusive behaviors. men, at least, get called out and socially punished for it, women, get celebrated and their victims get punished and called out. women's abuse and violence towards men is considered 'corrective' or 'justice'. this morning I must have swiped left like 30 times alone, simple due to toxic sexist weird shit on profiles.
the small subset is the women who aren't toxic, who actually take accountability for their emotions and their actions, and actually communicate with their partners. and who have realistic expectations for their lives, rather than being perpetually embittered their life isn't a social media reel. and they aren't on the dating market because they are largely coupled up. I meet many nice women at events this way, but they are never single. The single ones are the ones who are in the corner, and act with hostility and snide remarks if you try to interact with them, so you leave them alone.
in the past 5 years I've only had like 1-2 normal nice dates (who were not american btw), the majority were one flavor of hostile and angry or another, who absolutely blamed me or other men for their 'unhappiness', which really is a product of their their own poor choices and shallow pursuits. But you can't call them out, so you just sit there, listen to them rant, and say 'thanks, hope you find someone nice' and then they scream at you or sometimes attempt to hit or throw something at you. because HOW DARE YOU REJECT THEM, they are suppose to reject you you worthless man!
That said, 10-15 years ago, the majority of my dates were nice and normal folks. But that was also before social media warped everyone's brains. Things didn't used to be like this, but now everyone is so drugged up on rage and hostility and hate, well that's all they can see in the world and all they bring to it. And I, for one, want nothing to do with that shit.
how do you grocery shop, do you have like a cloak over your cart or something? so no one can see what you are buying?
