  • Probably my kids. So far, they seem to be a lot better at all of this than I ever was.

  • Property of (Sports team or college) is a very common phrase that just means "I'm a fan".

  • You guys have savings?!?

  • I work with a guy who has a long Polish name that nobody can spell, and it makes me smile every time he's referred to as John G.

  • Trent grew up not far from me, so it's neat to think that I potentially could have caught an early NIN show, but due to our age gap, they were already pretty big by the time I had heard of them.

  • No memory = no point in doing it.

If you don't remember something, it might as well have never happened.

Besides, I'm already sick of this time around, and my genetics were fucked to begin with. Give me a redo with my memories and a new body, and then we might have something.

  • On par with what I would roll myself.

I actually didn't know that they smoked, or that they knew we did, so it was also a kind of wink wink message.

  • This summer we let the neighbors park in our driveway since there is currently construction on our street. They've dropped off brownies, cupcakes, and a freshly rolled joint as thank you. And if you're wondering, they were just regular brownies and cupcakes.

  • Pastor says Ken M is the gateway to the devil.

  • Great example of Goodhart:

I used to work at a Verizon store, and we were rated by the amount of accessories we could sell with each phone. In order to boost that number, everyone tried to add on a bunch of cheap phone accessories (clearance items and screen protectors) to drive that number up.

Our goal was more than three, but once we figured out how to sell 5 or more for less than $20, they changed it to total cost of accessories per phone.

  • Are we talking like a New World Order that acts as one set of rules for the whole world?

Or an alliance of all nations (like the UN) that makes sure nobody gets too out of line?

The first, has WAY too much potential for absolute corruption, the second would be much better if there were set human rights that COULD NEVER be revoked and 100% cooperation among ALL nations.

  • I'm with you.

It seems like more times than not, I feel like I've fully explained the situation, and the person I'm talking to responds as if I said the complete opposite or something completely unrelated.

I'm willing to accept that I'm doing something wrong, but when I put extra effort in to make sure that everything is explained accurately, it STILL gets misinterpreted. I'm starting to think that people are just really stupid and/or terrible listeners.

  • And all this time, I thought Latex was just for condoms!

  • And voting gave us freedom of speech and religion, freed the slaves, allowed PoC and women to vote, allowed LGBTQ to come out of hiding, created labor unions and busted monopolies, and created social safety nets for those in need.

And it took a long time to get from one to the next. Progress is a slow process, but as a species we've accomplished MUCH more in the past 250 years than we have in the 4000 years leading up to it.

Is it just a coincidence that all this progress only started once people were able to VOTE?

Every empty ballot is a vote for the tyrant.

  • nihilist

No you aren't. You seem VERY disturbed by AIPAC and military action in the Middle East. A nihilist wouldn't care. A nihilist might choose not to vote because any action would be pointless. If that is their philosophy, I don't agree, but I understand.

You are actively not voting because you are outraged by what is happening.

I don't see how hiding in the corner doing nothing and convincing others that they should also do nothing aligns with your frustrations with the system. If you're really as pissed off as you claim to be, then fucking DO something about it. The only people who are going to coddle you and say "There there, you just sit back and relax, and someone else will make it all better for you." are the ones who want to put you in a cage.

  • And it's everybody else's opinion that your opinion is the stupidest plan of action that will guarantee that things only get worse for you.

  • I agree that there's currently no party that's going to create what I believe to be a perfect world.

But if you think that they are the equally bad, you're either completely uninformed, an absolute idiot, or purposely trying to manipulate the people in the first two categories.

    So, which are you?

  • I used to feel that way when I was young and stupid.

People who refuse to vote for the lesser evil, are voting for the greater evil.

  • Then I'd say you captured her perfectly!
