Indigenous Canadian from northern Ontario. Believe in equality, Indigenous rights, minority rights, LGBTQ+, women's rights and do not support war of any kind.

  • This is one of the main reasons why I don't own a dog.

    I have a few friends with very expensive homes in southern Ontario near the city. I love one friend who absolutely wanted to have pure bred golden retrievers. They make for fantastic family photos with your nuclear family and beautiful house.

    But over the past ten years, I've had to help them vacuum up vomit and diarrhea from their beautiful living room with expensive furniture. They have two dogs and the worst event was during a visit to see them and one evening, one dog vomited about a gallon of liquid and the other dog shat a gallon of liquid. These are close friends to my family so we spent a week helping them vacuum, suction, steam clean and deep clean the carpets ... TWICE!!!!

    This is on top of having to take a walk in their nice neighbourhood in their designer clothes and periodically bending down to grab dog shit from the sidewalk or park near their home.

    I grew up with dogs as a kid and I'm Indigenous Canadian and my dad kept sled dogs for many years. My parents didn't believe in keeping pets. They taught me that if you wanted to keep an animal, the animal had to work for you in exchange for you feeding and taking care of it. Otherwise you were abusing the animal by keeping it just for your own personal pleasure.

    I've always been on the fence about all that. .... but after vacuuming up vomit and diarrhea, more often than I care to admit and picking up dog shit ... I don't think I want a dog.

    I ride a motorcycle, an old BMW and I named her Sophie. I don't plaster it all over the bike, it's just a silly thing I do for myself to remind me of the past. The name is after Sophie Scholl, a young 21 year old university student who stood up and protested against the Nazi regime in her country in 1943.

    Even in the face of severe punishment she kept protesting until they arrested her and put her to death.

    This young man is giving up so much, maybe giving up their future, to fight for all of us ... there is no greater bravery than that.

  • I've been watching Enterprise now for the past few months. I take a walk on my treadmill just about every day for 45 minutes and every time I watch another episode of Enterprise.

    Season 1 and 2 intro songs were interesting but when they changed the tempo and beat in season 3, now I literally dance for the first minute of my walk as I swagger and move on my treadmill to start my walk.

    My greatest fears now is that when I die ... one of the last things I'll hear as my memories disappear is ..... "It's been a long road ..."

    I've been watching Enterprise now for the past few months ... I'm on Season three now and there is something weird about that song. At first I played it because it was silly but it also reminded me of 80s or early 90s kind of soft rock folk stuff. Then for a joke I kept listening to the intro every time. After about five episodes, I didn't want to skip the intro song because I wanted to start learning the lyrics .... again as a joke. Midway through season one, I couldn't skip the intro any more.

    Now I go about my day and the song will just randomly play through my thoughts.

    I was upset when they changed the style for season three. Then after that I started thinking .... what if they had kept changing the genre of the song with every season. A hard rock version, a death metal version, a screaming version, an operatic version, a full on country version, a Japanese pop version, a Mongolian rock version, a punk version, a bluegrass version, a Gregorian monk choir version. I go about my day and play these versions in my mind now and wonder if I've already lost my mind.

  • Why bother .... in the 24th century ... they could control the ship's climate to be absolutely comfortable at the right temperature and humidity all the time everywhere. Then you could just forego any clothing and allow everyone to just be naked. They only time anyone ever needs clothing is when they leave the ship. Otherwise, while inside the ship, just let everything breathe.
