They didn't fire him for stealing the cookie. They fired him because he's old and probably earning twice what a new hire who could do his job would earn. The cookie was just an excuse.
Every employer, big and small, has a collection of petty rules on the books that are only there to be enforced against people they want to get rid of "justifiably" and not have to pay unemployment.
Same problem with heavy, gusting wind that a hand-held one has. It would be bobbing all over the place. Where I live we only get rain with wind making standard umbrellas almost useless.

If they weren't so greedy and cheap they could have packed it. Free admission, and free food, plus some shade structures and carnival rides would have brought people in, politics aside.

It's not about age, it's about corruption. Old politicians have had more time to make deals, forge alliances, and prove themselves useful to money.
One way to mitigate this is term limits for Congress. Force them out before they can do too much damage, before they can entrench themselves, and gain the support of some billionaire. Less reason to throw millions at a candidate if they'll be gone in eight years.
I disagree. Age limits would disallow competent people who happen to be old from serving (Bernie, for instance). Age does not correlate well to competency, but if you're young you might believe that. Competency itself can't be measured well enough by a test to be meaningful, so that is out.
There already is an effective age limit in that people typically run for office the first time when they're relatively young, and a term limit would kick them out before they got old. Old people running for the first time would likely be seen as out of touch, unless they make compelling arguments (again, see Bernie), and so would not be elected.
Having only an age limit would still allow people decades to entrench themselves and do great damage.
In short, the problem isn't competency, it's corruption. If anything, they're too competent at being corrupt. It's the same reason we have a term limit for the President, without the limit, we'd have Putin.
Finally, I think there's a chance term limits could pass, whereas an age limit wouldn't.
Well, it's "preferable" until the time comes. Then they probably have second thoughts.
It's like the people who survive suicide by jumping and say, "I realized when I jumped that everything could be fixed, but jumping."
I think it would take an extremely poor quality of life for me to consider death preferable. Look at what some people endure when they know the alternative is literally nothing.
My dad had a Do Not Resuscitate order on file with the home he lived in for the last two years of his life. It was ignored. CPR got him to the hospital where he died a couple of hours later.
Cubes make the most sense, they're easy to add onto, unlike a sphere, and easy to navigate within.
