He/him

  • Needs everyone staring at a radio. Then a mass printed book. At one point there were people who thought books might damage women’s health by being too exciting.

That said, each of those things did bring legitimate unexpected social changes. The flattening of accents and Protestantism weren’t expected consequences of radio communication or printing, introducing new ways that people interact with information about the world just changes how they see and interact with the world.

  • I would guess the mean and the median are very different. How many people taking out a mortgage on their house does it take to counteract a hundred grannies playing the penny slots?

  • If you don’t have to stir or refrigerate it, what (general) you use isn’t one of them.

  • Is that your legal advice as a lawyer? Because all the ones I know say to not post about this on the internet.

  • Please do not post about the crimes you plan to commit on social media, friends. Cops would love it if you posted about the crimes you intend to commit.

  • Why is it better to break apart communities to enforce a misdemeanor charge if calm, dispassionate armed agents of the state do it?

  • Why do we need armed agents of the state breaking up communities at all to enforce something that is classified as the same level of crime as jaywalking (a misdemeanor)?

  • That only works for hard boiled eggs, lime water works for raw eggs. Allegedly they don't taste off and can be used as normal eggs.

  • My siblings have chickens, but I wouldn't call them a money saver so much as a hobby. If anything the eggs are more useful for bartering/giving to friends, since even a family that eats a lot of eggs typically has trouble going through the eggs laid by a small flock. Take into account too that they're not going to be laying as much or at all during the late autumn and winter months. So you'll be drowning in eggs in the spring and summer, and then not really any. Historically people dealt with this by preserving eggs in lime (mineral, not fruit) water, but most people don't bother today since you can get them at the store.

You may still need to buy chickens down the line, because sometimes an illness can go through a flock and knock all (or most of them) down without there really being much to do about it. Letting them just breed for too long without introducing new blood can also cause incest issues. The vitamins and feed aren't really that expensive. You may be able to get a better deal at a local feed store than online or through a pet store.

  • Gotta create your own fun!

  • Do you mean to tell me that Prompt Engineer isn't a real job??

  • Is organic chemistry a skill? I took that class twice and still feel like it barely left an imprint on me. Other than having a fight or flight reaction to benzene rings.

Otherwise, electrical wiring at a very basic level. I’m never going to be confident enough that I’m not going to burn the place down to do it on my own, and what I did learn I don’t really have a use for. Basic electrical safety knowledge is really all you need to get through day to day life.

  • Late for dinner? By which I mean ‘not an hour early’

  • You’re finding them for $21? I can’t find all cotton boxers for less than $10/pair

  • Common misconception, they’re not only heads, they actually do have bodies. They indeed don’t have legs, but they can walk!

  • The stereotype isn't that all UPS guys are gay, it just came from a time when there weren't a lot of legal protections in the US for gay employees and UPS had a good nondiscrimination policy for the time. So a lot of queer people ended up working for UPS for a while in, I want to say the 90s and 00s? Just basing this off personal memory. Same reason there's the stereotype of the gay flight attendant, Delta was another company that had a good nondiscrimination policy back in the day.

  • He looks very polite!

  • There's a reason there's the stereotype of the fit gay UPS guy (if you didn't know this stereotype, now you do). Walking around all day and carrying heavy shit makes you FIT

  • They've done experimental archaeology to confirm this is physically possible, even if it turns out that's not how they did it.

  • I don't know anyone personally that has actually read the whole series, including myself.

I think I have? There might be a side book or two I missed, I think I only read one of the choose your own adventure ones. But I read the main series all the way to the end and the ‘main’ side stories (Hork-Bajir Chronicles, etc). I enjoyed the hell out of it as a kid, it definitely influenced a lot of my anti-war feelings.
