usually about two blocks from my apartment after walking home drunk. held it in for like 20m but I just lost it at the end man. it was brutal. it was also at like 2am so not like there was anyone around to witness the lump in my pants.
TBF getting high quality and well prepared veggies is hard and it's expensive. the stuff sold in mass supermarkets is mid at best and that's what most people have access to.
I grew up on awful quality veggies that tasted like shit, because my mom boiled and steamed everything and added no seasoning. also she did this with frozen stuff and we never had fresh. a lot of canned shit too that tasted awful.
this is the reason i never enjoyed vegetables until I was in college. they thought I was this shitty picky kid... but they were just awful cooks who prepared awful food.
when i took some pro cooking classes the chef asked me if my parents ever cooked with salt, because he was shocked how little i used...
I got my first job at 15. Wanted to get a job since I was like 12. Was super made that I was legally not allowed to work until 14. Had a couple of friends get jobs at 14 and I was super jealous.
there was another one just today about teenage girls and how they come to therapy with 20 self-diagnosis, and the therapist has to unpack all the therapy speak babble they have convinced themselves of because they just use it to obscure their own emotional experiences as systematic pathologies... rather than just like admit the felt bad about something.
it's getting way worse than pathologizing life, people can't even process basic relationships without filtering them through words like 'narcissist' and 'gas light' now. and everyone is convinced they have adhd rather than just admitting they are lazy or distracted sometimes.
and you can see lots of folks here pulling the 'everyone has to be in therapy all the time' nonsense...
if you ask me it's basically just a place holder for what religion did for people in generations past. you also notice how many people talk about it in mantras or like bible verses and just parrot/repeat the 'truths' of therapy... and assume that everyone is as traumatized as them... and if they aren't they are lying.
therapy culture has all this weird cognitive distortions. i've always felt uncomfortable how many therapy people like, need to justify their own journey through therapy by insisting everyone else who ever lived also has to go through with it... almost as if they are still desperately trying to 'normalize' themselves...
Yeah, nobody every talked about therapy around me until I got to college. Then everyone was therapy this therapy that. Then went to graduate school abroad... nobody talked about it. Moved back to the east coast usa in a very rich city... and therapy this therapy that.
it's super common if you're in the wealthy elite parts of the country and such, but not so much if you're not. but also it's being actively pushed as the solution to many problems, like social alienation, etc. that have more obvious solutions... like simple paying people more.
to me it's symbolic of how we refuse to like address so many things, and just offshore them or create some new pet industry of experts to address... what were handled by ordinary stuff in the past. like having a workplace where you belonged and got paid fair wages and your life had stability and opportunity as a given... etc.
my sister kept trying to get me to take their junk as heirlooms... i just caved and threw it out later.
It was just junk. Like crappy old broken watches from my dad, and some weird ugly jewerly from my mom. IT was worthless stuff, but for whatever reasons my sister had a lot of sentimental value in it and insisted I had to take it.
I come from a poor family and we never had anything of value to pass down or any 'history' in our family. it's weird to think how I have stuff that is like... way more valuable than anything my parents ever had or my grandparents.
therapy people have sort of a cult mentality... they don't want to discuss the limits or issues with therapy.
they basically think it's a miracle cure for everything, and if you disagree they downvote or call you names.
truth is therapy is a limited resource and has lots of issues. and not all therapists and therapies are the same for everyone. but that's a complex detailed discussion folks don't want to have. a large chunk of the therapy industry has implicit and explicit biases and is overwhelmingly dominated by women.
not to mention all the bad ignorant takes like 'therapy is talking'... when there are many non-talk therapies that are necessary.
the problem is 'go to therapy' has become a way to dismiss people's legitimate problems, concerns, and sometimes just their ordinary experiences. it's yet another way of going 'i don't agree with you or like you so therefore you should just go away'.
cool. i have known many therapists and they all hate poor people because their insurance pays them shit, so they day dream about building up their practice full of exclusively rich clients who can pay out of pocket so they can make 300-500hr in private practice.
they only ever see treating the poor as a ladder to climb up out of.
manhattan? or inner part of queens/bronx? No.
bronx, staten island, end of subway line in bronx/brooklyn, yes.
