  • the issue in the USA is the folks who horde all the mental health resources, need them the least.

they often use access to therapists as a social status symbol more than anything else, because in order to have regular access to therapy you have to be a higher income person.

we also have a therapy industrial complex in the USA, as in we want to turn everything into a mental health issue so we can sell you a solution to it, and there is massive increase in the pathologization of ordinary life experiences fueled by this.

  • The problem is rich people don't handle their emotions, they outsource that labor to therapists.

And they now expect everyone else in society to follow that model and it has trickled down.

The issue with mental health resources is must are being taken up by trivial nonsense of rich folks, where as people who legit mental health problems can't get the resources they need because they are inaccessible to them. Very similar to physical health care. Hence why the advice is 'oh you are feeling mad about something, go to therapy', because that's what a rich person does. Just like they have the luxury of going to a doctor over ever trivia healthcare concern.

There is a special suite for high roller patients at the one of the hospitals near me now. Basically, if you can pay them 100,000 in cash, you can get your own army of exclusive doctors for every little ache and pain, meanwhile the average person has to wait months or years for basic medical checkups and appointments...

  • cool, do you live in a world where money grows on trees too?

  • everyone could benefit from a personal trainer too!

    should everyone have personal trainers?

  • It's a rich American thing.

poor Americans don't have access to therapy. it's a luxury good, like travel.

and the people who tell you you have to have travel 3x a year are the same ones who think you must have a therapist.

  • they either have money, or don't save any money, or both.

the most pro therapy people I met, are the poor little rich person type. As in living paycheck to paycheck but still getting $5000 handouts form mom and dad every couple of months and are in constantly mental agony over a lot of first world problems, that 90% of the rest of the population would be jealous of having.

  • The same reason folks pay someone else to do their yard work, clean their car, or doordash every meal.

They don't want to do the emotional work, so they pay someone else to do it for them.

And the folks who pay other people to do this stuff, can't fathom doing any of it themselves. And they look down on people who do it themselves as subhuman.

  • what is that, like 10% of the cost?

  • I had a girlfriend who tried to baby trap me. I have never felt so violated in my life. Like I had breakups and heartbreak before and stuff, but that feeling when she drunkly admitted it and questioned my manhood was like drowning, gasping for air, closest I ever felt to dying. And I've had panic attacks, almost drowned, and been hospitalized for car accidents and other accident a couple of times... all of that was far less traumatic that than moment. Like there is being upset sad, angry, and then there was this feeling? Despair I guess? I feel like a fundamentally see the world in a different way after it.

Some folks just have no respect for other people and only see them as things to be used for their own desires. Evil is very real.

  • No. you have to create the stuff you want to see here.

  • No, they should be banned.

Such questions need to handled by professionals, not internet 'experts'.

  • Oh I never bought into their bullshit. I don't get catholic stereotypes because well, I ignored all the stupid crap my parents tried to teach me.

my childhood mostly sucked not because we were catholic, but because we were poor and my parents were very angry about it everyday. they probably would have been happier had they actually gone to church more often.

  • god no. my parents were both catholics and afraid of sex.

  • yeah i know.

I don't agree with the lemmy hive mind about how awful and terrible everything is because 1st world people are mildly inconvenienced and have to pay a few extra bucks for something that was artificially cheap 10 years ago.

  • There are deals to be found, for sure.

  • people think you are are a mentally ill weirdo if you try to communicate beyond a superficial level these days. because everything has to fit into a short text messages of no more than like 25 words. otherwise it's 'too long to read'.

and they wonder why they are so depressed, anxious, sad, and lonely... well because this is what you choose. you choose a shallow miserable existence and it makes you miserable... rather than making choices that require more effort that would resolve the issues and lack of connection.

and when you point this out to people they get very angry and insult you because, you're using too many words and they'd rather go back to watching tiktoks and feeling depressed about their life.

  • my parents fucked and i was born. that's what it means.

  • or just read a book or listen to a lecture that requires you have to process the material. much easier to discover stuff this way than try to find the 1/1000 people who will give it to you in conversation.

  • I don't work for netflix but I do understand a lot about tech and I do very well in my career, yeah.

Because I don't tolerate entitled requests from users who think their convenience is all that matters. They have to sign into the account everytime they they move locations because it's a necessary security precaustion and contractually obligated by our insurance.

but right, I'm a dummy and you know better. you know you can just setup your daughters phone with a netflix account and have her stream from the phone to any tv without having to re-auth right?

but hey sorry for trying to help you out, when clearly you didn't want a solution, you just wanted to be embittered at netflix because how dare you be inconvenienced.

You could just... no longer subscribe to them. but that would be even more inconvenient.
