  • I like both, but if it doesn't at least aim for realism, then I see it as very much futuristic fantasy. Star Trek and Star Wars are both very much fantasy.

  • Record of Lodoss War: Advent of Cardice, on Dreamcast - despite being a glorified fan game with non-canon story - deserved more notoriety than it received. That and other Neverland action rpgs like Shining Force Neo, and Shining Force Exa.

  • I'm aware of this. The problem I have is that it basically means they are subsidizing large segments of our economy, making us more dependent on them. More dependence gives them more leverage, and eventually only continues this back and forth we have now.

I still support it, as I said previously. But it's never going to solve the root problems, which are executives and corporations as institutions. They need to be supplanted.

  • While I'm in favor of increasing taxes on the rich if given the option, it's always felt like such a bandaid measure. Our society should be structured in a way that doesn't produce these people in the first place.

  • Or, and apparently this is crazy these days - I can just use a file that's in a format appropriate to what I'm trying to do, compatible with the simpler offline app it was made for, and then just use a more general purpose syncing method whether online or sneakernet if I need to do some kind of data transfer - as opposed to accumulating an ever expanding collection of server stacks that are just redundantly doing the same kind of thing anyway while needlessly adding an insane amount of attack surface.

  • Am caught up on One Piece up to the end of the Egghead arc, waiting for the dub of the next arc. I don't know what to do with my life now. 🙃

  • The thing that I hate about self-hosting is that a lot of apps that could just be a plain offline thing are instead being designed to be super bloated server-docker things. Databases are not reasonably portable data formats.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

In terms of fantasy classes, or myth and archetypes, what is a word to call someone who values foss principles and contributes everything they make to open-source and the creative commons?

  • Isn't there a Pebble project that lets anyone create watchfaces through easy drag and drop interactions?

  • You're right, I should start up a new game of Stardew Valley.

  • Never is.

  • Well now I'm not sure. But it's something I've done in both Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas, and I'm pretty sure when I load the save files, my adjusted carry weight is still there.

  • No, it's persistent.

  • Using the town portal every 15 minutes isn't fun. As I said, Torchlight 2 did it significantly better. Slot-based inventory so you don't have to do the stupid tetris stuff. More space. A pet with their whole own inventory. Then when you're full, just offload the junk to your pet and press a button to have them sell it all in town.

I can't go back to games like D2 after experiencing that.

  • It gets pretty reasonable once you have a full party and some bags of holding.

  • Try again, you're sure to get it this time.

  • Oh, and in Bethesda games, you can bet I am using console commands to give myself 10,000 carry weight. Waste my level ups on encumbrance perks my ass.

  • This is the main thing that drives me away from the majority of isometric action rpgs, like Diablo 2. Insanely too limited inventory space. Also one of the reasons Torchlight 2 is still my go-to even after all these years.

Like seriously, for a game that sends a veritable flood of interesting loot your way, wtf is this D2?

  • What's your opinion on abortion? If it's a shitty one, would you consider leaving lemmy too? 😇

  • Pretty much anything that doesn't run on foss. Game consoles in particular. When they all started requiring a subscription for basic online functionality, I moved all my gaming to PC and now also those retro bootleg handhelds. Love my Retroid Pocket 5.

What are your preferred alternatives to Amazon?

  • Linux @programming.dev

Fedora 42 installer defaults to btrfs? What's everyone's opinion or experience on that?

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

Do retro handhelds have untapped potential for privacy and security?
