  • I guess there's a bit of a difference between some EU states and US in this. In Finland, rising unemployment level has been entirely due to immigrants and we are not yet throwing them out due to this.

Most of the recent new immigrants are from Ukraine, so I guess that'd be a bit too evil even for an austerity government.

  • The inconvenient truth for us old shits is that the parents are at fault mostly. Mostly we were powerless to stop it as a megatrend of course, but also many of us used our own money and our own free will (if there's such a thing) to buy our kids those devices and then let them use them freely.

  • I wish it was youtube. Instead it's places like this.

  • Also in Europe. It's obviously related to unrestricted internet use and smart phone proliferation.

For the first time in a long time, we're having generations that are dumber than their parents.

  • Rephrasing: I've used AI a lot and I haven't seen it misspell anything in at least a year. Even in pictures these days. Depends on the model, of course.

  • AI doesn't misspell words. It's more like hypercorrect which reveals it.

Unless MS uses some very outdated models of course.

  • You guys don't have holiday on may day?

  • Also in the most communist country, healthcare would be subject to some market forces. Namely: how many sick people you have versus how many doctors you have. You can affect these with central planning somewhat, but not a lot. Unless you kill all the sick people of course.

Free market could fix that if properly applied. Also public health care could fix that if properly applied (i.e. decorrupted, modernized and funded so much that taxes would be amazing).

  • As a centrist kind of non-woke person, if I see my son playing with dresses, I go "oh, cool" and move on. Not worth making a fuss about in any direction.

My first son (biologically) turned out to be a trans, and never exhibited any clues towards it before leaping out of the closet as an older teenager.

  • Better aim next time.

  • To extend the "planting the seed" metaphor a bit...

Some people try to plant seeds on other peoples minds and let them grow like beautiful flowers.

Some people try to facefuck other people and plant their seeds deep in their throats.

  • Sounds like a perfect job for oneshotting LLM prompt and direct copy-paste without looking at the results.

  • That's not quite what I'm rooting for here.

  • We should ban economically left-leaning anti-establishmentarians.

  • Please don't. You seriously need to grow a thicker skin if thing you see online hurts you.

  • they’d have to do something pretty fucked up

"Be american in 2025" worked for me.

  • Maybe the only piece you’re missing is that “almost right, but critically broken in subtle ways”

Sure, but you have to note that it reaches that point in minutes. Sometimes on a task that would take humans a week. The power is not that it creates correct stuff, it's that it creates almost correct stuff 100 times faster than human. Plus the typical machine benefits: it never gets tired, demotivated, etc.

So then the challenge becomes being able to be that human, who can review stuff extremely well and rapidly, being natural in probing the stuff LLMs tend to be wrong about. Sort of like the same challenge that every tech lead had before LLMs too, but just subtly different, because LLMs don't exactly think like we do.
