I like computers, trains, space, radio-related everything and a bunch of other tech related stuff. User of GNU+Linux.I am also dumb and worthless.My laptop is ThinkPad L390y running Arch.I own RTL-SDRv3 and RSP1 clone.

  • I mean, that just means business as usual for me. We don't have internet at home, I just use mobile data. I pay €17/month for 300GB. Used to be €13.Although, it is that I get what I pay for. It is an MNO, but they only have 1800MHz licenses for now. Recently they won some blocks in other bands in auction, though most of those will only be valid since 2029 except for 2100MHz which will be usable for them since 2026-09-08, and 1500MHz usable immediately, but with basically no support right now (plus the infrastructure takes time to build).

    Anyway, what that means is awful coverage (though they pay for 2100MHz and 900MHz with 20GB FUP (unoficially 80GB) from another MNO) and around 5 - 8 Mbps down during the day (they use 1800MHz @ 10MHz (15 in few places)).

    I am just weird enough to have the auction press release from Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services printed out and ready xD.

    Anyway, unfortunately, my phone can't do 5G, where they have 90MHz as far as I recall. Much speed there.

    Alternatively, for €20.50, I could get also 300GB, but this time with 3Mbps after that, rather than huge €0.0144/MB at a mature MNO who has LTE-A coverage (2600MHz @ 20+20MHz) there, in which I got 150Mbps down when I was testing it. (Only up to age 28)However that means giving my details to yet another corporation (I tested the network with unregistered foreign SIM).

    Battery-wise, I have a brick of a phone. 85.14Wh battery. My laptop only has a 45Wh one. On full charge with regular hotspot and mobile data usage... and heavier screen time, it does 5 days.

  • Just the default extendable dipole. It's pretty versatile, and fits into a pocket when retracted and taken apart. Fully extended it's 2m, and shortest is 10cm (accross the entire length).

    For digital books I've been using the ThinkPad. It's a 2-in-1 laptop, and honestly I don't want anything else than such design at this point. It does not play nice with X11, but I had no issues with Wayland so far, at least under Plasma 6.

    I can work with people (and have a job), but not 24/7. My father is unemployed, so I am absolutely never alone. I just need some quiet place where I can be alone, with no expectation of someone walking in (i.e. lockable).

  • I tried that, but it didn't work. At the therapists office I basically couldn't remember any specific problems, and I had issues talking to him too. Last time I forgot to go there because it was between night shifts, and I couldn't get myself to make a phone call, so I tried to text him, but he didn't respond so I didn't go there again.

    Anyway, last time he sent me home after like 15 minutes because I couldn't quite say anything, so I don't see the point anymore.

    Not quite. I've come across a few plans that don't offer EU roaming, and also those where there's far less data offered than the regulation requires, or found a loophole.

    Let's go for the examples of no EU roaming data:T-Mobile CZ Twist IoT CR - IoT card, but it offers up to 500GB of data paid once a year (78 EUR), only usable in Czech Republic.T-Mobile CZ 100GB edition - regular SIM, but also CR-onlyVodafone CZ GIGA 100 + 50 GB - also a regular prepaid, but no roamingSwan Mobile (4ka) Sloboda Data - 300GB in Slovakia, but 0.144 EUR per MB in EU.

    For the last example, they're also the same example that breaches the regulation with other packages. When I did the calculations, they exactly checked out for other 3 MNOs, so I guess I did them right, but they didn't for Swan.Further confirming this is the fact that they have already received at least 2 (as far as I could find) fines for breaching these RLAH regulations, that is 15,000 and 90,000 EUR, but I suppose that just ends up being cheaper for them, as it still isn't fixed.

    Anyway, perhaps they did in fact fix this, with a loophole.For example, take Sloboda Nekonecno+ for 25EUR/month with "unlimited" (300GB) data. 8.25GB of EU roaming does not look right there.So what is going on?On paper, it's split up into base and additional package. Base package is 20EUR, and only has 2GB of data. Additional package with unlimited data is 5EUR/month, and as you could guess, cannot be purchased separately.

    So, for base package, you get full allowance, thus 2GB. Additional package is calculated separately, (4.06504065041 / 1.30) * 2 is 6.25. And thus 8.25GB instead of 31.27GB was born.

    There's so many different flavors of water. Just trying tap water in random places is such a different experience. Although I only specifically remember the worst. What the fuck was that bitter thing in Budapest.As for mineral waters, I definitely go for Budiš in a glass bottle, chilled.

  • I also had massive issues with Bluetooth on Windows 11 (at least early after 11's release) with some Intel WiFi + Bluetooth card.

    WiFi worked fine, but Bluetooth would just disappear after reboot and randomly reappear after like 6 or so reboots. I mean, it would just disappear from settings.It worked fine every time in Mint.

    And also a weird thing with a HP printer not automatically installing the drivers. Windows would say it couldn't obtain the drivers, and to download them from manufacturers website. Fine. HP website didn't provide any downloads, stating that it will be automatically installed.Guess what also worked on Linux with HPLIP.(I was able to find and install the driver on Windows from driver posted to archive.org)

    And I shortly worked at a small PC shop. There were some laptops that came without OS, and customers wanted us to install Windows 11 onto them. Fine. Except, they had no RJ45 connectors, and Windows didn't have the WiFi drivers.Also pretty annoying, but generally people just don't install Windows, it's already there.

    One funny thing, maybe being free is sometimes a disadvantage. I was once met with "What would we sell if not licenses" when I mentioned Linux.

    I only found price mentioned in forum by Benu pharmacy employee from 2023, stating 123.50 EUR per dose. So 370.50 in this case.

    For people aged 12 - 14, this is fully paid. 18 and up, fuck you.

    15 - 17, depends on the insurance company.

    But again, as an adult, no luck.

    I am certainly not normal enough to represent anyone else here, but while not HIV, I do fear HPV (the sexually-transmitted strains).

    My parents did not get me vaccinated against it when it would have been covered by insurance, because... because.So, some quick overview from my mind which you shouldn't trust as a source of information: Often marketed as something to protect women from cervical cancer, thus being reduced to "the vaccine for girls". That's often the view of public even now that it is also recommended to boys, which wasn't always the case. Even then, the reason often ended up being not spreading HPV onto women. People being stupid -> Either "I have a boy, so it doesn't matter." or "I raised my girl well, she won't need it."Well anyway, for men, throat cancer, anal cancer and penile cancer sound pretty relevant.Speaking of penile cancer, yesterday I came across photo of a man who got large cancerous growth on his trunk as a result of HPV, and had to undergone penectomy (i.e. bye dickie), plus the radiation therapy went wrong causing large burns.All in all, basically a cancer vaccine, only effective if you didn't come into contact with HPV, which most sexually active people do, also why it's typically only given to kids.

    So, moving on, Gardasil-9 protects against 9 high-risk strains. Doesn't sound like a bad idea even if you had sex, likely you haven't collected all 9 yet. But certainly best before.So, 3 doses, 2nd after 2, 3rd after 6 months. I think they take around a month to become effective, so I guess 7 months for total vaccination. Paid by patient, almost 400 EUR for all 3 doses as far as I could find in my country.

    So, not like I could get any regardless, but safer sex would cost me 7 months of waiting and almost 400 EUR while I am about to start college and make 4.70 EUR per hour. And it cannot be fully done retroactively later (after activity). It's also good to have saved some money. If my laptop or phone breaks, I need a replacement immediately (and I sure as fuck want another convertible ThinkPad).

  • New is probably different for me, only meaning new to my library, but usually radio.

    There is new music on radio, but I usually don't listen to those stations. But when I did, I got some recent music from there too. However for me where music peaks is the 80s and 90s.

    Other way is simply stuff I hear others listening to near me, and then Shazam it. Which is why for example Brooklyn by Glockenbach reminds me of very specific road section and SOR C 9.5 (bus).

  • On the other hand, I now have free time I would have otherwise not planned for.

    So I can think of what ambitious thing I want to do or learn, spend the day deciding on it, and then "maybe tomorrow" it for 5 years until I finally forget.Over 3 years ago at some point I decided to learn C++ and Japanese (I had free time). I'd still kinda like to, at least C++, the human language to learn has changed, but I don't quite have time today, so maybe tomorrow. (Not made up)
