  • I mean, in fairness... they're good for fishing.

Just not uh... long duration outdoor urban camping.

Different equipment for different activities; you probably wouldn't take your skis to a basketball game.

  • ... So that I could shoot and do a hatchet job on 3 guys who were minding their own business, who got spooked when I inadvertently wandered into their turf...?

... which was the alleyway immediately behind a busy hybrid medium density commercial/residential district, full of tons of 'normal' people, going about their day, shopping, going on dates?

... that has a police response time of generally under 5-10 minutes, due to a nearby station?

No. No. De-escalation is the answer 99% of the time, just stop being a problem, apologize, leave.

Nobody had to die or pick up a felony charge that day, and nobody did.

... I've unironically met recovering fentanyl addicts with more sense than you, many, actually.

Hope you never end up homeless, you'll probably end up dead or incarcerated for life pretty fast, with that kind of mindset.

    Homeless people don't have rights.

They don't get to argue 'it was justified self defense!'... because they never get the summons to court, because they don't have an address to send it to, they don't have a stable, known phone number... or a reliably working phone... so you just end up with a contempt of court warrant that you didn't know you had.

Thats how the legal system 'works' for homeless people.

... You really, really, really want to avoid any kind of trouble.

No one will call an ambulance for another homeless body on the ground somewhere.

Nobody cares, or even notices, if you die.

Simply walking around with a machete is an arrestable, jailable offense in the city I was in... throw a handgun onto that too?

... what, did you think I was homeless in the fucking woods, in the middle of nowhere, with no access to any resources or potential support systems whatsoever?

... Murderhobo is not a very viable character build in real life, unless your plan is to speedrun suicide by cop.

  • Yep, commonly referred to as a Bug Out Bag or Go Bag in the US, its a good idea to have one in case of any kind of potential disaster or emergency, not just a zombie apocalypse or literal Russian invasion.

General rule of thumb is a minimum 3 day supply of food, first aid kit, thermal blanket, multi tools or small toolkits, paracord/twine, spare socks/undies, tampons for the ladies, lighter/firestarter kit, compass, map(s)... that kind of stuff.

  • Almost certainly much more importantly, you need a solid, dependable, multi purpose knife, that you can use 99% as a tool, 1% as an actual potential weapon.

Beyond that, you could use maybe one firearm, at absolute maximum, two.

If you're not willing to at least semi regularly train with the firearm, don't bother.

If you are willing to train, train in the gear you'd be wearing in a worst case scenario.

Ammo is heavier than you might think, plus any/everything else you're rucking.

You must understand your own actual capabilities and limits.

Getting familiar with doing reloads properly, recognizing and being able to clear various kinds of jams and failures... that kinda stuff is just as important as marksmanship, retaining the weapon.

If that all sounds like too much, again, you probably shouldn't bother with adding a firearm to your BoB.

  • Just end up homeless, one way or another.

That's your pre-post-apocalyptic scenario, just for you!

... A fishing vest is generally kind of silly.

Somebody can just yank the whole thing off you if they're sneaky or deceptive, or can overpower you.

You're gonna want something a bit more substantial, with external and internal pockets, actual metal zipper, a hood, etc, that can work in many weather situations, that's somewhat loosely fitting, that you can pile underlayers under for when it gets cold, take em off when its hot.

Much more importantly... you want really, really solid boots.

And a water canteen, or a camelbak if you can manage it.

Also probably don't just wander around brandishing a machete and a fucking handgun.

I got chased off a block once because I had a walking stick, a well shaped tree branch, that some other gaggle of hobos interpreted as an inherent weapon and threat.

  • It's not totally independent, but yeah the vaaaast majority of preppers basically just build an armory, a food and storage cache, in a place that is not going to be secure.

I watched a youtube video of one guy, had been prepping for years, accumulated a fuck ton of all kinds of supplies.

... and then a wildwife wildfire EDIT (lol) approached his house.

Long story short, he spent hours scrambling, miscommunicating with his family, hastily packing a tiny fraction of his shit into his SUV...

... so that he could 'bug out', to a hotel in the nearbg city, after getting stuck in a traffic jam of other people trying to do the same thing, for a couple of hours.

Fortunately for him, the fire was able to be controlled, didn't burn down his house.

But yeah, all his shit would have been pointless, he had no real plan and he choked when it mattered.

... Even in an actual total societal breakdown scenario... people with a bunch of stuff, and not a lot of actual friends?

That's what you call a loot box.

  • See but the problem is you don't tell a person like that, that last line.

Because they don't have a moral compass.

Their conception of 'good' is 'what makes people in my social circle and who also share the group identifiers ive chosen... what makes those people happy?'

A narcissist has no capacity for moral reasoning outside of 'what is good for me and my reputation' and 'what can i get away with'.

Tell them 'do something good', and best case, you get a Kramer-esque attempt at doing something theoretically good, but undergone in a basically insane way that's likely to cause more collateral damage than good.

You really do have to go all the way back to 'we share our toys equally!' with these kinds of people.

  • Well that sounds not too expensive to me, good work!

  • Pathological malignant narcissist's first attempt at apologizing for anything serious in their life.

    Rating: 0.5/10 (F--)

Only not 0.0 because it is at least an attempt, technically, they did at least identify some things that they did... but they don't actually directly express regret for them... though you could maybe, possibly, conclude that they mean to imply this.

Every single other element of this is abysmal and indicates insincerity, that its more of a panic response than anything meaningful.

They have not done any self reflection.

They have no understanding of what fundamentally caused them to make the error.

They don't care at all to have an actual dialogue as they are just asserting what the other person thinks, and attack the person they're apologizing to in the 'apology'.

Its obvious that they are furious that they've got no other choice than to admit some kind of being wrong if they want to be taken any kind of seriously about anything, ever again.

... and they obviously do not present a plan for their own self reflection / self improvement going forward.

It is absurd and laughable that they think this consitutes their eyes being open.

And that's all assuming this is any kind of genuine or from an actual real person.

This is an admission of guilt, like a child getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar, not an actual apology though, as they're barely cognizant of what they've done, what needs making amends, how that would be done.

Laughably pathetic, when considered as if it was a genuine apology.

The real Trump Derangement Syndrome is this, is willingly joining a hateful death cult, and then doing hateful death cult things, with glee, and justifying them through vicious lies and nearly a decade of abdicating the responsibility every adult has to think critically for themselves.

  • So are laptops, if your is cat is very needy / a real asshole, lol.

  • How cheap is setting up your own lemmy instance?

  • The USA, since Covid:

... we're all just still living in the post-covid collapse, mental/physical/economic breakdown.

  • You're a debt-slave, 'arry!

  • I entirely skipped/missed the socket, that's a good catch!

  • Correct.

Which is why I did not preface the amount with $ or £ or €.

  • A good solution, but, depending on your exact setup, you may have to balance the amount you lose airflow from which particular kind of filter you use.

Though, if, you're not generally running a bit hot, you are probably doing it right.

  • The cat hair is gonna be the more serious concern there, if that becomes a standard perch for her.

    Also... what cost 4,380.20?

Or did you not realize that was in the image?
