I live for 90s TV sitcoms

  • Yeah, and everyone's opinion of low effort is different. Idk, if all we see is pictures of a homelab or dashboard that's boring, but at the same time I love seeing things people have worked super hard on and are proud of! Previous mods were pretty eager with that trmove button for that.

  • The average internet dweller doesn't even know they've lost privacy.

after all, their post has a delete button next to it and their messages say private! They wouldn't just lie

  • I worked in ads only a few months and learned how fucked that industry was. They're basically given license to just run scripts in your browser, sucking as much info as they can. The fact that it hasn't been regulated to hell is shocking, and truly a failure of all leaders.

  • destroyed

  • Ah I get the trope now.

Haw haw haw these young-uns not understanding how PHONES work Lololol this is the funniest thing I've seen in 60 years since we had separated drinking fountains

  • Ask anyone in IT or tech and they'll confirm that this is the easiest thing for Microsoft to do, the veil is so thin here, it's purely to get people to pay them a subscription.

  • That they were better or something?

  • Exactly. I try to be fairly neutral in situations like this. Being nice would be to feel guilted into it and give in, but that will only tell them that it worked, it won't renew the friendship. Being negative will only convince them you're an asshole. A clear answer here the truth, it's not mean, it's not nice, just right in the middle.

  • Yeah? They were slammed? slammed? Shitty journalism.

I hope Amazon corporate starts unionizing. Amazon deserves it.

  • I hope so, but I still encounter people (mostly boomers) who still think it was some stupid woman

  • To the largest fast food company in the world they couldn't spare 20k to make amends. To them that's a less than a single employee's salary, a fraction of one of their lawyer's salaries. Absolutely pathetic

  • What? No I didn't?

McDonalds is heavily thought to have caused the smear campaign against her to protect their image, shifting blame and making her out to be an idiot who was only looking for a payday.

  • I'm hesitant to say this is silly. It reminds me of the McDonald's hot coffee incident.

For those unaware, in that case a woman had coffee spilled on her, and she sued saying it was "too hot". Her case hit the national media, across headlines and featured in 6pm news hours. It was made fun of in comic strips and online (very early online). What is lesser known about it was:

    • McDonalds frequently kept coffee at near boiling temperatures to keep it longer
    • McDonalds had been warned numerous times that this was extremely unsafe and that it was going to hurt someone
    • The woman's labia was fused shut because the coffee was so hot it melted her underwear and caused permanent scarring
      • (She was in the drive thru, and it had spilled when it was being handed to her)
    • McDonalds is heavily thought to have caused the smear campaign against her to protect their image, shifting blame and making her out to be an idiot who was only looking for a payday.
    • The woman was asking only for McDonalds to cover her medical bills in her lawsuit.

So jumping out ahead of this one, it seems like she's an idiot, but history tells us that corporations are very cunning and quick to blame the victim.

  • oh my god... I honestly was hoping you were joking.

I hate computers We're going to have to use the unix commandline

Blam blam blam clearly shooting the monitor, ignoring all of the cables obviously routing somewhere else. I try to suspend disbelief when I watch shows, but goddamn NCIS is just so blatent older mother dream sequence. OoooOOoo computers scary, he shot the hard drive, he saved the day!

  • Depends on the favor and if you want to do it of course. I'd say be better than them and respond, don't bring up the last time, and if you don't want to just kindly say that you don't want to or can't.

Since I don't know details, I assume it's someone you haven't talked to in 6 months and they want help moving or something, I'd say "Hey good to hear from you! Unfortunately I can't, sorry, but let me know if you want to meet up for a beer or something"

keep it simple and vague. You don't need to give them a reason or an excuse, just simply can't.

  • Jokes on them they can't remember what they didn't have

  • Ah my mistake, you're the developer! Stand by my comments but wish you luck. I was looking to see if anyone had set it up and what their opinions were. I have a stack at home and could stand one up, deciding on it still now. I prefer fedi everything, but there are celebrities/professionals that only use insta and stuck with it.

  • Please tell me he didn't actually do that

  • How is it?
