Sci-fi

I live for 90s TV sitcoms

  • Yeah, I had a town of 15k and 5 miles up the road we had one around 300. They just contracted ours out. 300 peoples' taxes is not a lot, why waste it on police who will what, catch that one kid every once in a while, or have to throw a drunk out of the only bar? Not worth it.

  • Are you not infotained?

  • Simple, I think it's a great idea and so I care about it.

  • Yes you are very passionate if you've left so many comments about this, which is why I go back to my base question - why not just ignore it then if you find no use out of it?

  • Yes? I don't understand the point you're trying to make now. CVs, skills, etc sound specific to this so they wouldn't be federated. Social features like posts, replies, comments would be, as they match ActivityPub, they're not extending the protocol or anything for it.

So I really don't understand why you're so upset at the app. If you don't want the professional stuff then it's as simple as not signing up for an account. If you don't want any social things from them then it's the same as any activitypub: defederate or block.

You don't like it, I think that's obvious, but I don't understand the multi-comment thread where your argument seems to be "I don't like it so it shouldn't exist". You don't have to understand why other people find it useful for it to be useful to those other people.

  • Don't subscribe to users from there then, and even then doesn't sound like this would be federated?

    On a separate, professional site.

That's quite literally what this app appears to be trying to do.

  • Where would I put my CV and professional details, my skills and abilities? I don't know man, I see some real value here, what's the harm of it?

  • Except, I don't want those people in my regular circles on my regular accounts, I keep work and personal separate. I'd prefer to have a separate account, just like this that's linked to my professional life. This fills that need for me

  • Hey now, back when they cancelled sharing I cancelled my Netflix, and eeeeeveryone else said they were going to as well. Mines still cancelled, apparently others buckled? That's on them.

  • Interesting. I fully expect it to be a bunch of Linux nerds. However, us linux nerds share job postings with others.

  • I have only received jobs for the last 10 years via social features. I hate it, I don't enjoy it, but networking and people skills are the way to a good network. I started blogging and recruiters started pinging me regularly. It has a place

  • Been saying for a while, download your stuff now folks. It's a constant battle to prevent this shit. I'll be mailing my reps (are you?) But plan for the worst.

  • Completely shocked. The fact that they never took the beta tag off of it was clue enough for me.

  • Just like most AI, it makes the user lazier. And I'm someone who is forced to use AI for work and I can confirm.

Why would police actively try to solve a crime when they could lean on flock? Even if it gets it wrong they can say they tried and then move on.

  • Don't kid yourselves, the majority of people will eat this shit up

  • Not solves. They have not used the term solved anywhere in there. They are ten possible answers they say.

Which means they have let AI run around and maybe come up with an answer, but they have no way of knowing if it's true, or at least don't want to say it is. Interesting.

The company is hemorrhaging money. This is marketing fluff to try and keep investors interested, and trying to buy some pr because they're offering some free tokens.

  • Park, like not just braked but fully parking gear, so not at a red.

  • It is illegal to show anything like that while the car is in gear.

However, it's completely fine as soon as you turn it on, or are sitting parked, or in aux mode.

  • I'm forced to use it at work and my token usage is monitored. Here was yesterday:

Build things thing, but remember: DO NOT DO THE THING.

Sure thing! I'll build out and I will not do the thing

    WTF YOU DID THE THING

You're absolutely right, I did the thing even though you explicitly told me not to do the thing

I wonder if they will have metrics for how many times I've all caps sworn at it.

  • Tech companies "move fast and break things". Their answers would be "What standards, we're not in the movie industry, we're a 'tech' company"
