  • I was at a listless, lonely, and sad point in my life when a friend made a pass at me and, appreciating the attention, I went with it. The relationship went toxic and exploitative, and I ended up being abused for years. The abusive relationship ended not because I heroically gathered my wits and strength enough to get out, but because she eventually got bored with me and kicked me out.

Thankfully, it's long in the past now. After that I took some time away from dating and relationships to work on myself, and with the help of friends and family I slowly pieced my heart and my life back together.

When I felt ready to begin dating again I put myself back out there, and I met someone truly amazing. We're in a very happy and healthy marriage in which we trust and appreciate each other, and nobody is being treated like crap.

  • I like this idea, but they are announcing cheapish sunglasses for sale during the height of sunny summer with an estimated ship date of late November. That seems like a slight miscalculation.

EDIT: I'm an idiot, and other places exist. Thank you multiple commenters for pointing out the flaw in my thought here!

  • As with movies, foods, music, etc. my "favorites" always shift around depending on my mood, but just now off the top of my head:

    • Doctor Who
    • Star Trek TNG
    • Mystery Science Theater 3000 (which is coming back again, again!)
    • Monty Python's Flying Circus
    • Bob's Burgers
    • Ghosts (the US version)
  • I love that they eventually used the name Pubert for the new Addams baby in the Addams Family Values movie.

  • I learned that being with someone who makes you wish you were alone is far worse than being alone.

Amen to this. It's a really important piece of wisdom.

    Glad you're doing better!

  • *Momulan.

  • While playing catch by myself with the squishy stress ball on my desk, I declared my left hand was charging my right hand $1M for the ball and my right hand was throwing it back to my left and charging $1M for it in kind.

So, according to these metrics I've sold $400M worth of stress ball to myself today. Alert my shareholders!

  • I just showed this to my wife, who enjoyed it, and then I gleefully reminded her that it's my fault she understands both the Star Trek joke and the Linux joke. She likes me despite this.

  • And of course TechSpot posts this very story illustrated with an AI slop picture of a guy with a robot, because no human could possibly draw such a thing for them.

    "Jovial Bob" to his pals.

  • My favorite fidget toy is this cool-looking cube I bought to which I did not apply the stickers. I can twist it around to de-stress, and it's always totally solved.

I kept this habit from my childhood, when I pulled all the stickers off one so all the sides were forever black and I was happy with that.

  • I'm currently taking my non-trekkie wife through the TNG box set for her first viewing, and we just recently went through both episodes of "Redemption." I'm happy to report she is now as obsessed as I with Robert O'Reilly's eyeball acting.

  • "I do assure you, Mrs. Buttle, the Ministry is very scrupulous about following up and eradicating any error. But if you do have any complaints you wish to make, I'd be, well, only too happy to send you the appropriate forms."

  • I once went out to dinner and a movie with a then-friend, like many other casual hangouts we had over the years, but this time that person made a pass at me at the end of the evening and I went with it. This started a relationship which turned incredibly toxic and put me through years of domestic abuse. (It was long ago, I'm fine now.)

Whatever the hell we had for dinner that night was probably my most personally-costly meal ever, and I would not describe it as worth it.

  • My best dating app experience was my first app date, which was with the person I've very happily been with for ten years now.

My worst dating app experience was my second app date, which was just meh and boring and showed me they wouldn't all be as awesome as the first one, and I went back to dating the first one.

  • Picard did meet Wesley before TNG. Wesley was there when Picard came to break the news to Beverly Crusher about Jack Crusher's death.

  • I hate when my lips get really chapped and a piece of it starts hanging down like that.

  • The one from the show is the licensed one, they just took one off the shelf and modified it. If you are looking to replicate the prop you have the choice to do so from scratch, or get hold of the same bank and make the mods to it they did.
