  • Because it's not fun. Coming up with algorithms and elegant code is the most fun part about programming for me, and debugging pages of sloppy code is the least fun. AI makes the parts I like less fun and increases the amount of sloppy bullshit code I have to debug.

  • I've been refusing to use any AI tools at all and luckily my manager respects that, even if he uses AI for basically everything he does. If the company ever decides to mandate it I'll just have the AI write all my code and commit it with no checks. With the worker's rights here, it'll take several months to fire me anyways.

  • I.. I hope my passwords are hashed and salted long before they reach the server, so the way it handles unicode shouldn't affect it all that much. The logistical issue I was seeing with emojis was more that some of them look the same but have different Unicodes alltogether, so typing in the same emoji across devices might be tricky if their keyboards default to different codes.

  • Unapologetic intellectual curiosity! I absolutely love being around people who love learning new things and who get excited to find out more when they discover a new topic.It's one of the first qualities that really stood out when I first met my husband - in a University lecture with 1000 people, he just nonchalantly sat down in the frontmost row because that's where he could hear the professor the best and ask questions. No shyness or awkwardness about it, which I found incredibly inspiring for some reason! I usually hid in one of the back rows because I was massively overthinking everything and afraid that the professor might call me out when he sees me not paying attention.

  • I finally switched to Linux just a few days ago when upgrading my laptop's SSD, and so far I have only opened minecraft to see how it runs - extremely smoothly, even though I could not figure out how to make use the Nvidia GPU. I'd say it runs noticeably better on Linux than it did on Windows.

  • It's not that Hamburg doesn't have public toilets, but Hamburg is known for the "Reeperbahn" - a street lined with bars (I think the American equivalent to it would be something like Bourbon Street in New Orleans?). People go there to get wasted off their asses and no matter how many public restrooms you put up there, they will piss wherever.

    (There's also an amazing documentary series about the Supermarket on that street and the characters that visit it)

  • They're like 1/3 neck 2/3 torso! You can actually kinda see where the neck turns into the torso because of the difference in thickness, I marked it with a green arrow here:

    It's a lot easier to see in person though since the chest moves when they breathe so you can be sure that's where the lungs start.
