  • This post just reminded me to fix my roommate's bank card.

    The magnetic strip layer was starting to peel off pretty bad, so I carefully applied packing tape over around the front and back side along that edge. As long as you don't cover over the chip contacts, and apply it really good and flat with no creases, it'll work just fine.

    Of course I folded the end of the tape on the roll before I put it up 👍

  • I'm still not familiar with this extension, but I'll see what I can find..

    I do find this part mildly concerning, as it entangles a browser extension with a desktop extension..

    To control GNOME Shell extensions using this site you must install GNOME Shell integration that consists of two parts: browser extension and native host messaging application.

    I'd look more into it, but my current daily runner is recently a different breed of Linux over the past 3 weeks, Termux+XFCE

    WTF is Night Light? How is it intended to work?

    Is it installed by default these days? What is the package name? Have you tried to run the man (manual) command on it in the terminal?

    But you make a mighty fine point. What's the best defense against a homemade bulldozer tank with nothing but cameras to see from and drive with? Spray paint the cameras..

    The thing had more than one weak point they could have used to their advantage...

  • Something like that yeah. He built the ~22 ton outer bulletproof shell with 22 tons of thick steel plate metal and concrete. He built it on some sort of hanging hoist over the bulldozer, only to be lowered once he was ready to go cause the destruction he did. He designed it without an entrance nor exit, it was a suicide mission and he knew it.

    What finally brought his rampage of destruction to an early end was when the bulldozer ran over some of the debris of his carnage, that some chunk of debris managed to bust the radiator, which ultimately took out the engine. So, clearly the radiator was a weak point all along..

    My thought regarding a grenade wasn't about trying to take the dude out directly, but rather to disable the bulldozer and go from there.

  • Climb on top the thing and drop just one grenade right behind the bucket, in front of the radiator.

    That would also block like ~90% of the shrapnel, and with any luck, take out not only the radiator but the engine too.

    No reason to go willy nilly tossing grenades at it, I mean hell, they did climb on top of it while he was still driving it to look for an entrance..

    Grouping 8 bits (or other grouping of bits) out of an endless sequence of truly random 50/50 bits will show a bias towards chaos, not solid patterns like 00000000 or 11111111.

    I mean yeah it'll happen occasionally, but I think it's way less likely than pure noise, where half the bits are zero and half the bits are one...

  • Allow me to take a different, simpler perspective on this subject of randomness..

    I just tried a simple experiment, simply flipping a coin 8 times. The results should give me a random byte, right?

    Not particularly. My coin flips gave me 'Heads, Tails, Heads, Tails, Tails, Tails, Heads, Tails'

    That gives me the binary sequence of '10100010'

    Now, it would seem this should be fairly random, but one byte of information should have an equal randomness of the numbers from 0 trough 255. Should...

    But it almost certainly will not. It'll produce something closer, if not basically identical, to the Bell Curve in statistics. You're almost guaranteed the lowest chances of generating '00000000' or '11111111' using such a simple binary coin flip for each bit. Not to say it won't happen, it's just less likely in the long run experiment.

    As I conclude this comment, I flipped it once more. Heads.
