  • I'm not really sure what you're getting at?

Does it help MAGA idiots because it makes them feel like they're sticking it to China?

In reality of course it's childish and is the international diplomatic equivalent of throwing ones own poo at your more sophisticated opponent, into the wind, up hill, when you have the runs.

  • I'm happy to stand corrected given my very limited medical knowledge.

That said, old mate obviously wasn't too concerned about it given that he forewent treatment.

  • Ok so everyone is entitled to basic rights, but if you're a Trump voter my sympathy gets turned way the fuck down.

If I'm reading the article correctly, the guy suffers from high blood pressure and as such he should avoid excessive stress. He asked for medical treatment but when told that he would be under guard at the hospital and then returned to detention for questioning after he recovered he declined treatment.

I'm not a doctor but my understanding of high blood pressure as a chronic illness is that it's a long term game. High pressure on your arteries and heart over many years increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. It's less relevant as a short term problem.

To point out the obvious, this guy was very happy for Trump to be mean to everyone else, just didn't think he was included.

  • Nextcloud really does feel old.

  • This conversation seems pretty pointless given that you're just going to keep making things up about what this unproven tech can and will do.

Feel free to have the last word, but I'll continue believing NFTs are a failed tech until I can buy a house without a settlement agent.

  • I don't think a smart contract can really eliminate what a "title company" does.

Can it check for encumbrances like a mortgage? Obtain pay out values for said mortgage?

Can it transfer money from buyer to vendor?

Can it calculate what portion of annual taxes need to be paid and by whom?

The actual storage of the title is a small component of what a title company does.

  • ... for example?

  • Semantics really.

No election is perfectly free and fair.

  • Would it really replace the bureaucratic aspect though?

You'd still need the government department to manage the regulations around what vehicles can be registered, and the practical aspects of transfers.

Really it's just replacing the technology that department is using to store their data.

  • Well it gives everyone the opportunity to blindly believe everything will be better because it's not twitter.

  • Yeah there's that one guy that appears in every thread about bluesky saying that it really is an open and decentralised protocol even if only one corporation uses it in a centralised way.

  • Yeah but it's kind of a problem looking for a solution.

As in, we don't need NFTs to keep track of who owns what vehicle because we have the department of transport (DMV?) to do that and it works well enough.

  • It's easier to say he stole the election than to address the alternatives:

    • A significant portion of the voting public are fascists and,
    • The Dems just arent very compelling.
  • Yeah that's how it seems to me too.

November 24 was a turning point, and this path was chosen in a free and fair election.

If Trump died tomorrow he would be replaced by someone just as bad by any meaningful metric.

  • You forgot:

    1. actively avoided basic precautions to avoid little girl getting sick and dying.
  • Are protests really about "doing" things though?

A rabble or riot might storm a location like on Jan 6, but is that going to topple a government? Maybe in the middle ages where you could depose a king but since then I don't think so.

Civil Unrest, if maintained over weeks and months might achieve something. If the population is ungovernable I imagine that might motivate republicans to impeach but things would have to get real bad.

Other than that a protest is really just a public statement of duress. It's an appeal to all the people who usually dont pay any attention to politics et cetera.

  • Trump just doesn't work that way.

He just doesn't do subtlety or strategy or planning or testing.

  • Sadly I don't think he will learn much. Bukele knows who is buttering his bread and it ain't this senator.

Whatever Garcia's fate, I very much doubt they'd let this senator through border control.
