Algorithm off implies a lot of parameters about the user which could be disabled. Right now there are thousands of parameters being used to curate content to you. With it off you could get true random content which in theory should allow for you to not get sucked into the dopamine trap.
Voting 3rd party right now is like refusing to let the firefighters onto your property while a wildfire burns down the neighborhood.
“Can’t trust the firefighters! They have ‘fire’ right in the name! Every-time there is a fire the firefighters are there! Coincidence?”
Meanwhile, republicans are running around with cans full of gas and a box full of matches…
Edit: Oh and the third party candidate is seemingly promising to build a utopia out of the ashes and saying this fire is very unjust and shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
Holy crap that’s wild. So someone was convicted for copying a photographer’s work? That’s really difficult to prove in the US. Artists influence each other all the time.
I agree that techbros copying should be paying for the rights btw.
That’s not how AI works. It isn’t like copying and pasting previous patterns exactly. It is a compressed (kind of representation) of the original. Similar to how our memories work. Imagine the mona lisa, you can probably imagine key features, eyes, nose, hair smile. But you probably don’t remember every detail of the background. Models don’t store the exact original. So it isn’t technically plagiarism.
Now can you argue that it is? Maybe, but a model not trained to specifically recreate the mona lisa is very unlikely to produce a replica of it but it “knows” features of the mona lisa. So it could apply a similar smile or look to another “known” set of faces.
If a painter has seen a photograph and later blindly creates a similar image that isn’t plagiarism, is it? Maybe I am wrong.
They are good at making their rich friends richer and burning through reserves/resources. They are also good at making racists feel heard. That combo has been very good for them
