  • Please dont put anymore roundabouts in the US until its included in the drivers license test. Every trip to work is a gamble and I have to slam my breaks while in the circle at least once a day, people will even use the right turn only lane to go fully around...

  • This and people complaining when they only listen to the top 50 songs. "Nobody makes good insert genera here anymore! They do, their just below 1k listens. The insane amount of talent below the 100k and even the 1k listens mark is insane and I often find myself going "how the fuck does this perfect to me song only have 1k listens!"

    When people talk about the All Quiet on the Western Front movie their usually referring to the 2022 Netflix adaptation since the last adaptation was in 1979, and before that 1930. I've heard great things about the 1930 adaptation but have no clue which your talking about :0

  • The original movie maybe, but the most recent netflix one felt like it cut out every scene from the book that made you actually feel for the main character. By the end of the book you understand on an empathetic level that Paul's choice in the last scene of the book is a mercy to himself. The author deeply explores so much more then the horrors of war itself, brothership, the rich/powerful treating humans like game pieces, the effects of propaganda on those who are living the opposite reality, how the ones away from the front turn their backs on helping the troops despite being the loudest voice for pushing the war further. There is so much more to the book and its sad that such an viciously real story is dumbed down to "war bad and scary"

  • I have a credit card purely for credit score. Im also a huge impulse buyer so my cap is $250. Ill never raise that cap because its pretty hard to screw yourself with, meanwhile all my coworkers talk about their thousands of dollars of credit card debt...

    The ability to get the things you want now is not worth the very likely future of debt, nomatter how good you are with impulse buying

    Dropped it the second I found out the movie plot from that search. Such a bummer since I was super invested until that point :/

  • My Note 10+ is cracked, glitched out, usb-c port no longer works, but damn if it wasn't the perfect phone. The only other phone that I felt this level of attachment too was my Moto droid 3 with the sliding keyboard

  • The best sleeps of my life have been after drinking several energy drinks and blasting metal as loud as I can in my earbuds after a long day hoping it motivates me to get something done... ill usually end up clonking out within a half hour. I think the caffeine and loud music give my ADHD brain enough dopamine to relax

  • Same but for a different reason. Im from the countryside so I don't have the same hate of car centric infrastructure as most on feddi, what I hate is theres nothing for opensource or real DIY. There is fully open source Arduino based ECMs, jerry rig a turbo and teach us how to dial in fuel and air mixture, or 3d print a cool dashboard with clicky buttons and dials

    But nope, all your find on youtube is sponsored aftermarket carplay screens that are ugly as hell or $10k upgrade kits that drop into place. You wont learn any DIY or diagnostic skills

  • Its really stange seeing kanidm basically never mentioned in these types of threads dispite how perfect it is for selfhosting: great documentation, incredibly easy to get setup, easy to make a custom themed/setup auth page, lets users name themselves how they prefer instead of requiring "firstname lastname" (why does every service need a lastname when it never gets used?)

    Authelia and authentik are cool but are way more complex then you need for authenticating a couple services and for me at least feel "bloated" for my usecase

  • Personally I use pure wireguard, but it was a nightmare to setup when your working overtime (in the USA). Sometimes people need a simple binary that just connects without any further research, but I will admit now that I know wireguard it feels incredibly simple

  • Lemmy is its own cult. Weight mentioned in the headline and every comment is about their zero science "worked for me" aproach to weight loss and then claiming its universal and drugs bad. Not a single comment talking about how this research has found a medicine for diabetes treatment that can be used for people having bad reactions to standard one, and the fact that thats really cool
