Same but for a different reason. Im from the countryside so I don't have the same hate of car centric infrastructure as most on feddi, what I hate is theres nothing for opensource or real DIY. There is fully open source Arduino based ECMs, jerry rig a turbo and teach us how to dial in fuel and air mixture, or 3d print a cool dashboard with clicky buttons and dials
But nope, all your find on youtube is sponsored aftermarket carplay screens that are ugly as hell or $10k upgrade kits that drop into place. You wont learn any DIY or diagnostic skills
Its really stange seeing kanidm basically never mentioned in these types of threads dispite how perfect it is for selfhosting: great documentation, incredibly easy to get setup, easy to make a custom themed/setup auth page, lets users name themselves how they prefer instead of requiring "firstname lastname" (why does every service need a lastname when it never gets used?)
Authelia and authentik are cool but are way more complex then you need for authenticating a couple services and for me at least feel "bloated" for my usecase
Personally I use pure wireguard, but it was a nightmare to setup when your working overtime (in the USA). Sometimes people need a simple binary that just connects without any further research, but I will admit now that I know wireguard it feels incredibly simple
Lemmy is its own cult. Weight mentioned in the headline and every comment is about their zero science "worked for me" aproach to weight loss and then claiming its universal and drugs bad. Not a single comment talking about how this research has found a medicine for diabetes treatment that can be used for people having bad reactions to standard one, and the fact that thats really cool
At least in my experiance I've been dragged because "X told you their pronouns, using they means your trying to invalidate them" I've talked to X like 3 times and do not plan on being more then acquaintances/coworkers. Somedays I just want to say, "I wont remeber your pronouns because I don't care about you, not because I'm transphobic" but that would just create a lot of drama I would care even less about
This has also been a really controversial take of mine. But I have an even more controversial opinion that if I'm not well aquanted or friends with you, using they/them to refer to you is not offensive. I can barely remember peoples names much less your specific pronouns
Fun fact this is actually a well known proven thing! Hide the pain harold.jxl
Study apon study has found that by reducing work, giving people their basic needs, and letting us follow our passions makes us exponentially more productive and happier. But that would only benifit the commoners since the rich/powerful already have all that, and why would the people at the top help when they get off on the feeling of power
Containers are ment to be used with docker networks making it a non-issue, most of the time you want your services to forward 80/443 since thats the default port your reverse proxy is going to call
I mean we have this as a real thing with "speed traps" where the limit just drops 10mph for zero reason for half a mile so cops can loiter and give tickets
But I feel as though speeds are already too high for the dumbfucks in giant SUVs who got their license 40 years ago and have lost every braincell related to safe driving due to a crippling alchohol addiction. I propose a "fast lane v2 electric boogaloo" on highways or long stretches thats only available once you take a special, much harder driving test that needs to be renewed every 6 months or so set at 120mph(extream flats) and can slow to 60mph(extremely weavy mountainside turns)
I giggled a little too hard since I actually ended up in a psych ward while moving cross country and made some friends there. Unfortunately my stay was 2 states away from the one I live in now so not even that worked out lol
But thank you for the advice and I think I'll check out joining sometype of sport, most likely rock climbing(always had an intrest but never the motivation) since that seems to be widely recommended and just seems like a fun time even if I don't end up meeting anyone
While I agree that we have the technology to wildly decreas emissions by just cutting down on inefficient production, I do want to point out people did infact starve due to covid/lockdowns. Many lost jobs, big corps took the opportunity to run mom and pop shops out of buissness, prices skyrocketed. My family wen't from scrapping by to relying on food drives
Anything 8th gen or newer is going to run everything you need and then some. Ive seen people using that mini-pc as a full gigabit router even!
The previous comment talking about price to preformance of mini PCs is somewhat correct if were talking anout buying new, but absolutly wrong about buying used/refurbed. Regular PCs are widly more popular meaning they hold onto their price better. For selfhosting a used/refurbed mini-pc is probably the best form factor you can get when starting out
Basically every gov department aimed at actually helping people is going through it. People don't realize how much trump has fucked the things we take for granted to keep (the most harmful of harmful at least) chemicals out of the water, breathable air, stopping the spread of illness's that can mutate to become deadly, and so much more
Authelia + lldap(lightweight ldap) has been a really nice and powerful setup that negates the need for authentik for me. Authelia and authentik have diffrent goals tho, authelia is by design less powerfull and has a much smaller code base so that independent teams can audit the code themselves and a "set and forget" type configuration. Authentik is targeted at being an enterprise solution with all the bells and whistles. If you need those bells and whistles and dont want to use authentik try looking at keycloak (which also needs an ldap backend)
