Already I have replaced ~80% of my paid token usage with a small local model running on my 64gb macbook pro, but being able to run a full-fidelity multi-hundred-billion parameter llm locally would be a game changer for my use case at least.

  • absolutely, judges have every right to sanction and refer to the Bar attorneys that don't live up to the code of professional ethics. I understand why most judges most of the time are loath to do this, but lawyers are supposed to have actual hard ethical obligations as officers of the Court to NOT act in the way these ones did.

  • With the caveat that this is all make-believe, it seems like your typical ghost is anchored to a location, not some specific piece of wood or plaster within that location that could be replaced thus "removing" the ghost. They are well known for passing through physical matter as if it weren't there, so the idea that they would be somehow pegged to a specific piece of physical matter doesn't seem right. Ghosts are also known for haunting things are newly built on the site of old haunted houses or graveyards, which also points to not being able to dissolve ghosts simply by destroying or altering the physical area around the site of the haunting.   • If Platner wants to defend himself publicly on this, and/or keep running, and/or sue the accuser for libel, he's free to do any or all of that. As anyone who's been around for a few cycles know, its pretty common for candidates and other public figures, when they first reach a certain terminal level of attention or fame, to get a wide range of accusations on business, personal matters, drug use, and past sexual behavior. Just because these appear to be conveniently timed politically, is not evidence for or against their veracity. If there is no actual juice to these accusations, then dealing with people who lob bombs like that into the middle of campaigns is a well-worn playbook that thousands of politicians have run and won with, and he'll be fine.   • OMAD or IF works really well for a lot of people. What you eat and when you eat are critical, not just how many calories are going in and out. CICO is far from the whole story when it comes to metabolism and your endocrine system.

  • Other than "not seeing the use case" I think the meme is right on. People hate Windows but don't want to deal with Linux, people hate being trapped in the walled gardens of Microsoft or Sony consoles, but don't want to deal with a full-on gaming PC. Kinda like how when iPads came out people where like, this is worse than a phone and worse than a laptop, who are these things even for?

  • They are useful for doing the kind of boilerplate boring stuff that any good dev should have largely optimized and automated already. If it's 1) dead simple and 2) extremely common, then yeah an LLM can code for you, but ask yourself why you don't have a time-saving solution for those common tasks already in place? As with anything LLM, it's decent at replicating how humans in general have responded to a given problem, if the problem is not too complex and not too rare, and not much else.

  • Oh yeah, I was not even considering trying to jam everything in that tiny case and getting the cooling and cabling sorted out. I would for sure skip that and just go with a standard mid-size tower, were I going to try this (I'm not)

  • Well first we don't know the price, other than "like a PC" unless I missed something.

    Second, sure, someone like me, who already has the background and experience building gaming PCs, maybe (maybe) I could replicate most of the specs at the same cost, possibly even improve them in a few areas. But economies of scale, the labor on my end, shifting market prices... Unless Valve is marking these things up like 50% or more I just don't see how an individual is going to compete on cost once you include labor.
