  • Gee what's it called when corporations and the government are welded together in a power block that controls everything about the nation? Help me out here guys I forget.

  • Well add him to the long list of rats who think they feel the MAGA ship sinking the last few months. If I thought Milo capable of anything except acting in his own craven self-interest I might even be a bit proud of him.

  • Maybe we could ALL use a little pause on the breeding for a mo lol. While the movie does open on the premise that "dumb people having more kids than smart people is what caused this world", I really don't think that ends up being the point of the film. It's pretty obvious that unrestrained corporations, popularity politics, and entertainment that relies on cheap sex and violence are the actual villains of the film, not the poor idiots caught in the web of all that.

  • The problem with not attempting another impeachment is that it even further lowers the bar for what counts as impeachable behavior. The lesson going forward for conservatives will be that corruption, personal enrichment, stealing and hoarding classified information, inviting other nations to meddle in our elections, using EOs like they allow you to dictate new laws, and mob-style 'negotiating' with our allies, are all perfectly OK from now on.

  • In Oregon we ONLY do paper ballots so best of luck to the Feds if they try to dictate how my state exercises its constitutional guarantee to run it's own elections.

  • Ah old Mad Magazine, one mild chuckle guaranteed in every issue!

  • So are we just kind of admitting that there exists no way to expose any networked device to the internet securely? Because if it's not possible for PLCs I don't see why it would be possible for any device. If water utilities have to take these offline, then how does that advice not apply for every internet-capable device in every commercial and industrial facility worldwide?

  • Nut & Bolt is getting added to the repertoire. Something about how the double meaning relies on changing them from two nouns to two verbs tickles something.

  • And their premier vehicle, the CyberStuck

  • With a name like that you could say they were screwed from the start.

There could be a whole thread just on the variations of that concept, but the most obvious for a gas station has to be "Pump and Dump"

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What are your favorite joke/insult names for corporations?

  • I suppose a state can sign it's rights away in a contract just like any other entity, but I'd love to know if one EVER HAS. Because I don't think that's up to GEO and ICE to determine between the two of them which laws they are obligated to follow or not. At first I assumed that ICE had gotten some actual US State to agree to this, which would be horrible but at least would make more sense than a private fucking company and a federal agency unilaterally declaring they won't follow the laws of the state they are operating in, which is what this appear to be.

  • I know chip and RAM fabs are incredibly difficult and expensive to build, but how is the several trillion $ out there just up for grabs for anyone that can undercut the like 4 companies that have one not enough for tons of huge companies to say "I don't care what it costs, I don't care what you have to do, because even if I pay 50x what it costs nvidia to make a fab, I will still be scrooging like a villain"?

  • Oh that is just standard copy straight out of the union-busting playbook. In law you would call it "preserving the objection" which basically means they know it's BS but at least if they don't back down from it they can burn more time and money because now the process has to accommodate for all this "pressure" "confusion" and "misunderstanding" that po' 'ol liddle Wikimedia just can't make sense of.

  • Time to switch and save lol. I change phone plans and car insurance about once every three years at least because no matter what they find a way to run up the price on you over time, so there will always be much much better offers out there

  • Well go revisit that , it is peak 90s overblown comedy action schlock, which is objectively the best genre of movie lol, and I'll go read Perdido Street Station which sounds dope.

  • Oh I know they know. And they know we know they know. Did you know zat?

  • Beetle fan hahaha. Maybe I had just watched The Mummy or something before picking that one years and years ago

  • Yeah Windows Activation has probably has more programming time burned on it over the decades than all of NASA lol
