  • I mean Meta opened up Llama for free a while ago. But at the end of the day, the AI models posed to actually impact things are those integrated or integrateable into workflows, and those are all still more or less locked down.

  • LLMs are general purpose models trained on text. The thougbt is they should be able to address anything that can be represented in a textual format.

    While you could focus the model by only providing specific types of text, the general notion is they should be able to handle tasks ranging across different domains/disciplines.

  • I think my biggest issue with him is he's primarily been a news commentator since 2014.

    He did try to join the national guard again around 2019, but got called out as a potential insider threat multiple times.

  • With these kinds of models you can't ever stop training them, otherwise you reach a point where the data becomes dated and thus the model is dated.

    Think world events. Say another bird flu became a pandemic. The model can only know about that if it's trained on those events.

    There are systems (Rag) that can answer questions based on additional content, but that would only work on a subset of problems/situations.

  • I like that the arguement is that there are technical limitations to age restricting graphic content, so the best course of action is limiting people's rights.

    Seems like people's rights should be more important.

  • US is actually in range of 60%. Apparently 62% of high school graduates enrolled last year. Although that's graduates and not all people graduate, but also some people do go back later in life too.

    I think the real issue is that college doesn't look the same to everyone. You may commute, do part time, different majors. However, middle/high school are a bit more uniform so the tropes/trends will resonate with most people.

  • The power bill side is also not even clear cut. The longer processing time for slower chips sometimes ends up resulting in higher costs. It's surprisingly not as simple as lower wattage chip is cheaper to operate.

    America recovered faster and stronger from Covid than pretty much every other nation (without a recession), he's the president who was finally able to get us out of Afghanistan (something the past two president's tried and failed to do), and the infrastructure bill has been seen as a success I thought from most perspectives.

    Not saying this is the right way to look at these events, but just that historians won't be tied to knee jerk reactions. However, like most president's I think opinions about Biden will largely be defined by what his actions led to down the road more than his impact during his presidency. What happens with Trump and onward will have an outsized impact on how Biden is written about in the history books.

  • Yeah but the benefit of professionals and actual users speaking up is that they can speak to more than the immediate need.

    ChatGPT is always ready to provide answers, but I've rarely see it be aware enough to offer advice when unprompted.

    Basically if you're so wrong you don't even know your wrong, ChatGPT isn't likely to help, but people online can and at least did.

  • It's not about doing the things it's about the optics of saying you'll do them. The wall isn't done and never will be. Even if it was it would never deliver what was promised.

    Its all about optics and it's why Trump sabotaged the immigration reform bill. It would show democrats are capable of actually executing/delivering in a way he can't.
