I’d say that the show Gotham is primarily about Jim Gordon and an adolescent Bruce Wayne dealing with all of the supervillains in Gotham City, but, drama queens that they all are, the show is a lot about them too
About 100+ years ago, drugstores/pharmacies were referred to as the “Druggist“. In Europe, the term “Chemist” was more popular. I would imagine that would be the etymological origin of the term.
I remember that when I was getting this “lesson“, my first question was “what about medication’s?“ And my teacher replied with “those aren’t drugs“
And I replied “then why do they call it the drugstore?” then my teacher sent me to the principal’s office for being “smart“. I didn’t understand what was wrong with being “smart“.
Technically, it was founded on the principles of liberty and equality for all. Just not the practices of liberty and equality for all. it was an aspiration, a goal of our forefathers.
But the way they teach it in school is pretty deceptive— as if it was all accomplished magically on that day in 1776, when, even today, it’s a constant struggle— a goal that we’re much closer to, but still remains elusive. that’s the part they don’t teach.
“I’m just trying to give you truthful and straightforward answe—“
“No, sir, you’re being evasive and refusing to answer a simple ’yes’ or ‘no’ question. You’re not being straightforward at all.”
That’s what he said right before he asked him if he thought it was embarrassing, not being able to answer. Called him right the fuck out, all nice and calm. Asshole‘s face was priceless.
Decided to upgrade my laptop last October instead of waiting for a newer model to come out around now. The price has eye-poppingly doubled, but the updated specs are not all that more impressive. I’m really glad I upgraded when I did.
On the server side, I decided to distro hop to Fedora 44 workstation for the first time (i’ve been using Debian-based distro for over a decade). My goodness, it’s very nice.
No loophole. It’s just that the law, itself, is weaksauce bs and is mostly bluster that accomplishes little more than making politicians look good before the midterms. It’s mostly remarkable that such a huge piece of bs got passed by a supermajority and by such a hatefully divided congress, and that, right at the moment of triumph, Trump tried to sabotage it by holding it hostage to his Make Elections Corrupt Act, and refused to sign the bill.
But, because it passed with a supermajority in both houses of congress, it just became law anyway without the president’s signature, making Trump look like an even bigger embarrassment than he already is, not to mention a bigger loser than he already is. That’s what makes it such a big deal. He’s the first president who’s ever thrown this big of a bitch fit over a congressional bill he didn’t like. And still lost the fight anyway.
The bill, itself, has a few good things in it, but is mostly just meh.
