Same, dude. The power users will assume everyone has the time to assemble/learn the skill of setting it up. That being said, it’s on my list of things to figure out one day!
It is content recommended on YouTube, essentially. Not the usual long form content but the shorts feed in particular draws specifically from my Jellyfin downloads and views. Not ads, necessarily, but video clips of movies or similar genres in my algorithmic feeds based on apps using zero trust. It is typically a pattern of download a movie(behind mullvad) or watch Jellyfin and then notice similar movie clips by the next morning. I’m not really interested in going over the details on this thread because it’s not the main topic and there are many other ways this type of behavior happens. For instance, I have Jellyfin installed on a google chromecast and that could be enough or the actual leak. I have a pi-hole running and don’t see many traditional ads but YT shorts was an area where I could physically see how my location, travels, and activity on the web in other places changed the clips they served me in realtime. Pretty cool and scary stuff! I’ve been slowly pruning back corporate spyware. Good luck out there.
Notice custom ads based on the content you ARE piping through zero trust? Just curious. I realize many users here are probably very avoidant of ads or algorithmic shifts in the first place so it may be unnoticeable
While I have similar users here. I noticed that anything I watched on Jellyfin and was connected to cloudflare would give me recommended YouTube shorts on the movies/shows or similar ones I was watching. It is a great free service and I got my domain hooked up through them for $12/year but I feel like it is the leak for my data. I didn’t mind it for a long time because getting shorts served to me that were movie clips was fine with me.
Anyone notice similar behaviors? My paranoia has me wanting to go a different route or lock things down more.
I haven’t seen the posts (probably from deletion) but Lemmy to me is an invaluable source of smart Linux and selfhosters. Seems like a great place to ask questions for problem to me on the surface. Where should people like me go to if I need help? Genuinely asking
Realized this in 2016 when real life people I knew slowed way down on sharing and shifted to using social media as consumption platforms. Most people I know talk themselves into needing it for work or distant relatives but it’s 99% reels and doomscrolling. I have no answers.
Thank you. I feel like addressing the pure science of this is important. Not only do Americans poop, every cultures on the planet poops the same way (more or less). We are the same! Break down borders! Anarchy! Shit everywhere! No. Literally, visit an American truck stop. SHIT EVERYWHERE!
I have recently comes to term with my faith. I grew up missionary Baptist and it wasn’t charismatic or anything but even as a kid it kindof feels ridiculous and I started to just try to take the moral lessons and that’s all. Science and astrophysics have always interested me at a hobbiest level but it wasn’t until recently the way it all works it quite beautiful. I am fully atheist but it’s all so ridiculous I would accept a God somehow started this all, but not really.
Explore approachable science books, podcasts, and YouTube videos (and other federated stuff, if it exists). It is so fucking miraculous we exist in this vast empty void that (at the same time) is unimaginably large. Our planet and life is a miracle. Even if microbes exist out there, the fact we got to the point of “reason” is crazy! Any tip of quantum physics rules one way or the other and the universe is something else entirely. The way atoms come together and how we use them today is a species is miraculous. Humanity could really do anything if we were convicted enough.
The whole “we are made of star stuff” is also quite deep when you go through the whole cycle with it. We are quite literally the universe somehow scraping itself together through energy, time, and space to culminate (for now) in some piece of itself that can question itself and move indepdently, reason, etc. Dope.
If there is any reason to be good to one another is that we are soooo special. All life. And this planet! Hippy status activated.
I don’t know if this changes my behavior but it can be some good feelings to pocket for rainy days.
I experimented with milk varieties over the years and it is VERY dependent on brand, type of milk, and time. I only add time because if you stick to any brand for any amount of time you will inevitably come to a day where you see they changed the recipe and cheapened out somehow. The cheap oat milks are always the worst and emulate a 1% dairy option IMO. It’s all about your opinion. If you just want oat milk as a coffee creamer, I would recommend finding an oat option that is sold a creamer. They are overpriced and can be too sweet so watch sugar content on the back labels before buying. Explore!
Yep. Travel and talk to people or have an unfortunate in-law and you will see how dark the rural American can be. It’s so much more prevalent than anyone in a blue bubble wants to admit. And they are motivated and mobilized. These are the angry, racist people that helped Trump get in, twice! The sad thing is that the people I have met are way more adjusted, normal people in disguise than we think. They are all mad but for the wrong reasons but there are full networks of misinformation and peers backing them up. It’s not just the poor, rural people anymore. We’re fucked!
