  • Don't worry! I get my AC on Friday, after that there can be no more memee

  • Personally I really struggle with it. I wanna use it because it's not from a US company, but it's just wrong in like 60% of whatever I ask it. Sometimes even when corrected. It's good though, makes me stop using the clanker and actually search for myself. Sometimes I do resort to ChatGPT or accidentally invoke Gemini when searching though, and those two have a way higher hit rate

  • Yeah fair. Only a specific kind indeed, the other wasps I do respect. I recently spent quite a while getting one of the nice wasps out of my house because I didn't want to kill it. Yellowjackets do not usually have that luxury though, unless letting them go is easier than killing them

  • Not really though. I haven't been on the big social media platforms in forever, even during my 20s I was already gone. That doesn't withhold you from visiting parties, chilling with friends, going places, etc. The only big platform that I'm still on is WhatsApp, because it's the main way to message people here, and that's how you can go places. But I haven't go Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, TikTok, and whatever the fuck people use to consume ads nowadays

  • Meow meow :3

  • Your example doesn't make sense to me. Why would you modify the entire list by checking if something is in it? Also, you can totally edit the list via a pointer, that's how you're supposed to edit the list if you want any performance. Otherwise you'd be copying the list on every modification, which is terribly inefficient

  • Yeah exactly, I'll pull it out the moment I enter the bed. Also, I'd rather let the bed "breathe" while I'm not there. I tend to flip the sheets and lay them all the way over the "freet end" or the side of the bed, so both the sheets and the bed/mattress itself get some fresh air

  • One of them is chill and just zooms around to pollinate. The other tries to get into every place I don't want it to be violently and then starts stinging when it inevitably gets stuck. Wasps always try to get into my food, fly somewhere in my clothes where it'll inevitably get stuck, fly into my face, etc.

I've been stung multiple times by both. Bees was always my full idiocy (I was obsessed with insects as a kid). Wasps was never my fault though, those cunts just put themselves in harms way only to "defend themselves" when the inevitable happens

  • The sharknado guard dissolves the sharknado by guiding the flying sharks into the inner screw structure, forcing them down and safely into the sea. A few perfectly placed sharknado guards can reduce a small to medium sharknado to a normal shark-less sub EF3 tornado, saving many lives in the process.

  • Yeah it absolutely baffles me as well. I tend to just cook for 4 days or something in one go. If I'm lazy I can even get pre-cut veggies, a pot is pasta sauce, some meaty and some pasta. It's not that much effort and you could make enough to eat for days.

I was raised with the mentality that takeout or going to a restaurant was a luxury, which makes sense since it's fucking expensive. And personally I feel like takeout is almost more of a hassle. You have to order on some site that is more advertisement than useful (or worse, call someone). Then you either have to wait till they bring it or get it somewhere, in which time you cannot really do much useful anyway, and on top of that its fucking expensive and often unhealthy.

  • The exercise is not (primarily) for weight loss. It's so your body doesn't feel like a useless sack of potatoes the whole day. So you're not out of breath when picking something up from the ground. The weight loss is unfortunately primarily achieved in the kitchen.

At least, that's my experience. But maybe if you used to not move at all it makes a big difference. I lost weight when I changed my diet for the better, and I gain weight whenever I slip up significantly. But when I stopped running 15km per week (for health reasons) I didn't really gain a significant amount, maybe a kg (accounting for noise). I did become a useless sack if potatoes though, so I'm back in the grind.

  • This, but with an extra step where I start preparing 5 minutes too late, can't find shit, and then end up having to hurry so I arrive sweaty ans barely on time or too late

  • For real. I type like a boomer, but I never had any problems at uni or work (as a developer). It's not about how fast you're typing but what you're typing. And any good developer generally spends more time thinking or testing than typing.

Bur bad managers can't accept this, they need dumb metrics like typing speed, added lines of code, useless certificates, etc

  • Seriously? I have recently been working on my personal programming projects on my ThinkPad from 2014. That thing also has 8 GB RAM. It's slow, but that's only because the dedicated video card is no longer supported by NVIDIA. I was totally able to run PyCharm, my program (which was hungry for ram), and Firefox with quite some tabs open without any issues. And most people will be doing more basic stuff on this than what I was doing. Browsing around, editing some documents, viewing some photos. I'm not sure how heavy MacOS is, but I'll assume it's more like Linux than Windows. You can do a lot with 8GB if your OS isn't gobbling up resources to spy on you, show you ads, or run some useless AI shit you didn't ask for.

I agree that it's not a lot, but this laptop is not meant for people who need to do more than what I mentioned, putting much more RAM in there would just creep up the price without really offering anything.

Note that I'm not an Apple fan or anything, I've never even used anything from Apple.

  • I became a "morning person". Or let me rephrase that, I honestly stopped believing in the idea of morning or evening people. Whatever schedule you hold you body to, it tends to be okay with it as long as you're consistent. And bonus points if it generally aligns with normal daytime. I still tend to drift a bit later during long holidays, but I can live with earlier mornings and tend to have my alarm in the same time no matter the day if the week. Unless I had a party or something.

Also, I also became very nostalgic. The music I listened to when I was a teen remains my favourite, and I've become very sceptical of newer trends. Back in "my day" everything was better lol.

And lastly, I finally get why my parents have barely any hobbies and instead just sit around or meet up with people. When I was young I always wondered why adults didn't seem to care about learning new things. How their knowledge of subjects like math, biology, geography ,and physics had degraded after highschool. You come home after work and are tired. You need the weekend to recharge. I've already started working less (36 hours per week) and also have 36 days off in a year, which is extremely luxurious, yet I still managed to work myself into a burn-out. Unlike my parents' generation, I feel like we grew up with an expectation to be more than your work. People my age (me definitely included) seem to care so much about the hobbies. Your side projects, programming, photography, art, music, sports, etc. It defines who I am, yet I have way to little time and energy for it next to being a cog in the machine.

  • Too little too late. I'm already over to Linux now. Shit's been going downhill even before this whole AI craze went off the rails. I hope Microsoft Windows crashes and burns

  • why?

  • I'd say it's still accurate for quite a lot of us. Personally I avoid any "smart" device like the plague. I'm kinda done with tech outside of programming. I'd have a dumb phone if it wasn't such a hassle in today's society, none of my appliances is connected to the internet (apart from PC and phone), I like using old DSLRs and film cameras because I don't want to look at another screen when out and about, I read physical books instead of digital, etc. I don't own a car but if I had one it'd probably be some old piece of shit that just works, without all the smart shit if I can at all avoid it.

I have printers that connect to the WiFi, but they're turned off all the time unless I need them. There's no way in hell my washing machine gets WiFi, nor any other applicance like it. And I'm also very distrustful of video doorbells or even worse, those kind of digital locks that unlock with a phone or something. I'm just tired of everything being connected, everything being a subscription, everything being a security nightmare, everything needing power or having to be charged.

  • We should sprinkle IT people around the offices like wifi routers. To project their aura of auto-resolving constantly throughout the workplace. As a programmer I have more of an aura of auto-breaking any system that I'm near so hopefully they cancel out
