  • Also, some places require you to re-register at least a few weeks in advance of any election, so if they sent mail to an old address you never saw telling you your registration was deleted months ago but you only find out on election day when you go to vote you could be screwed no matter how badly you want to vote

  • No, it's not, it's if said administration is allowed to. They're not nearly as powerful as they want us to believe, they have been told no by court decisions and public outrage and been forced to back down on a variety of things already, and that's probably going to happen more often as their stupidity causes more things to break down in highly public ways that are impossible to spin and they have to find more scapegoat enemies and distracting spectacles, which will cause more things to break down and etc.

  • For sure, although it is a bit reassuring to think that there's public pressure for him to say these things

  • I mean, not being forced to work while not being paid sounds like an ok deal, especially when the odds are pretty good the courts are going to force the administration to give you backpay for all the time you weren't working and hire you back anyway

  • There should be a carve out of this for anyone who works for DHS affiliated agencies. Those people should go broke and be financially forced into other lines of work.

  • Probably what they're thinking. Of course, this just means Dems need to demand that any funding bill that opens the government guarantees back pay for everyone. If anything, this threat gives them less of an incentive to move quickly on reopening (why help Trump avoid hurting his chosen government workers when he's still threatening to hurt all the rest of them? Let them all get hurt together if this is the way they're going to be).

  • Wait, I thought he was already threatening to permanently lay these workers off already? Besides the fact that it's illegal and besides the fact that Trump doesn't have anymore leverage in this negotiation because the governments already shutdown and he was already firing people for no reason before that even happened, how is this any kind of a new threat?

  • a) he's already doing that, so that wouldn't get him the terrorizing headlines he wants b) he really wants the optics of deploying the military and going to war with evil "Democrat" cities because he's a fascist prick

  • legal insurrection

    legal

    insurrection

I miss when words meant things

  • I wonder how many more people police will kill before Dems reckon with the fact that going hard against defund the police from 2020-24 was a shitty thing to do

  • Some political parties learned the wrong thing

  • Sullivan made it clear the ideas floated inside the working group are not part of the current negotiations with Democrats to reopen government, and that he agreed with GOP leadership’s position that cross-party collaboration on the fate of the Affordable Care Act tax credits could only begin in earnest once the shutdown ends.

With all due respect, Senator Sullivan can go fuck himself

He noted he and his Republican colleagues are looking at potential new income caps for who can claim the enhanced tax credits. The group is also exploring instituting new minimum amounts for out-of-pocket premiums and guardrails to restrict the subsidies from plans that cover abortion services.

They can all go fuck themselves

  • You doubt that Donald Trump would stiff his own workers?

  • I'm just going off the headline here, but good to see the Atlantic supporting Luigi Mangione like this!
