  • Except in the current disorganized world we always just end up with one or two superpowers bullying the little governments and crushing all kinds of diversity anyway.

    Also,

You can move to a country with less oppressive laws

That might work for the crafty and well-resourced individual who has a go bag and good OpSec and can actually hop borders and keep their heads down, but that sort of thing is nearly impossible for, like, a single parent working for a crap hourly wage, or an unhoused person dealing with an extended mental health crisis, or other more vulnerable people. Justice shouldn't depend on geography.

  • There will be a brief moment of satisfaction when these types all lose their jobs to drones before things get even more dystopian

  • Nah, Schumer sucks and needs to be removed from his job as quickly as possible, but so long as he's still the Minority Leader in the Senate it would be weird and turn into a news story if he didn't say something like this

  • Seems notable that we don't have a headline with Joe Biden or whoever urging moderates to vote Democratic

  • No, but taking pictures of your own kids when they were naked at home for your private family album was more socially acceptable then

  • You're describing "NORMAL" behavior from a generation ago. You are right that people up thru the 90s would act that way, but Michael Jackson news and Catholic Church scandals made this a lot less socially acceptable over the last 3 decades or so.

  • After a divorce caused her immigration status to lapse, Basele was issued a final order of removal in 2011.

She lost her status because she got divorced? The fuckin fuck even is that shit

  • I don't think wasting time arguing over a question's wording instead of just diving into the actual substance of the issue like Larkin did would have looked good, and looking at the rest of that exchange it seems like the Fox people sure didn't like how it went for them,

Gallagher asked Larkin if he supports open borders.

“I don’t think there’s anything to fear with people seeking a better life in the United States of America,” Larkin answered before he noted his wife is the “proud daughter of a Nicaraguan immigrant.”

Larkin cited legislation by Jared Moskowitz, his opponent in the Congressional race, who was part of the effort that passed the Laken Riley Act, which requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain immigrants who have been accused of a crime. Riley was a 22-year-old student who was attacked and killed by José Antonio Ibarra, an undocumented immigrant.

The pair sparred verbally on the topic of immigration. “We need to keep our communities safe and we need to hold people accountable when they have harmed others, when they have broken the law but let’s be clear. Immigration is a civil violation, not a criminal violation,” Larkin said.

“So we need to stop treating the equivalent of a parking ticket like people are breaking the law and need a militarized police force breaking down their door,” he continued. “So the comparison here is not one of criminality. It is whether we are respecting international law, the right to asylum, the right of respecting refugees’ rights.”

Gallagher repeatedly attempted to engage Larkin on the topic of an acceptable number of “children who can be raped and it’s fine in relation to the immigration community.”

“If we’re going to talk about children being raped, then we need to hold this pedophile president Donald Trump accountable and all those that can implicate in the Epstein files that the Department of Justice is still not leaking and they’ve sent AIPAC after Thomas Massie—” Larkin began before Gallagher interjected, “Got it, thanks.”

“—for having the temerity to hold accountable the pedophiles that are in control of our government,” Larkin concluded.

“Thank you. We appreciate your time very much,” Gallagher said before the segment’s end.

  • I couldn't make that argument to a trans person

  • "I just want to maintain the status quo and I will burn this whole place down to do it" vs "I want to fundamentally revolutionize our society, would you please sign my petition" seems to be a running theme of our times

  • Barry Goldwater said desegregation was a states rights issue while winking at the KKK as hard as he could

  • What did she say that you disagree with?

  • I'm holding on to the hope that DSA candidates winning more elections in the face of centrist nonsense will make moderates realize they're being self defeating by doing this kind of crap. A real working coalition of socialists and liberals could be a political juggernaut that could also create some good policies together.

  • A true and important point, but the message I takeaway from this one is

Failure: you will wonder if there was more you could have done

Success: you will wonder if there was more you could have done

  • Lol, one was vice president and the other was governor of the state, and you don't need to be in elected office to coordinate with violent shitheads employed by a US government, just ask the Republican who undermined Vietnam peace talks in 1968, or maybe the Republican who screwed around with Iranian hostage negotiations in 1979

  • Pretty easy to look like political geniuses when you're also having police murder and imprison a bunch of black voters and organizers at the same time, that's like saying knocking out your opponent with a sucker punch over the board makes you a chess grandmaster

  • In related news sky may be perceived as blue

And besides the fact that they're a bunch of smug lying assholes who stab marginalized folks in the back and call it pragmatism, they've only gotten worse at winning elections since 2016

e; meanwhile, this morning NPR is pushing some fucking horseshit from some Ivy League assholes arguing that Dems won't win back working class voters until they distance themselves from "social justice warriors" - https://www.npr.org/2026/07/29/nx-s1-5905696/2026-midterm-elections-democrats-working-class (arc)

These fuckers constantly poke holes in the liferaft then say we have to throw our weakest swimmers over the side

  • That J Street linked in the article statement is hilarious

Through statements and votes, the majority of House Democrats demonstrated that there is now broad agreement within the Democratic caucus that it is time for a fundamentally different American approach to the U.S.-Israel relationship and the region.

That sentiment was echoed by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who voted no when he said [meaningless nonsense]. And it was picked up by Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, who voted yes and said [meaningless nonsense].

    [Bolding added]

Today’s vote reflects the emerging consensus in the Party – the debate will no longer be about whether U.S. policy should change, but rather how it must change.

"As an organization and network of lawmakers that has vociferously opposed any change, we are excited to announce our support for change now that it has become inevitable! And as staunch advocates for change for over four whole minutes now, we are looking forward to offering feedback and constructive criticism to all of our partners in this movement for change."

  • Wish they would've investigated him this aggressively when he was running for office, if we had a competent president who wasn't a fucking asshole to his own voters we probably wouldn't be dealing with Trump 2.0 now
