  • Incredibly, that's actually the reason they're going with

Three military officials told the Times that “one reason behind the change was that the Trump administration decided to remove four service members killed this past weekend from the list … because their deaths occurred after President Trump declared a cease-fire in the war in April”.

Well, that's "one reason," I guess? What are the other ones and who made this decision? Who knows because this administration won't tell us anything and lies over half the time it does say something anyway, so just infer the worst.

  • The headline states "all time low", which is a trend, which this chart shows

  • Not necessarily saying you're wrong

I will, they're dead ass wrong and it's super frustrating because I see this shit everywhere and it comes from a combination of the facts that a) Americans don't get enough education in how to interpret statistics and b) a lot of news media will just cherry pick whatever statistical results they want to tell whatever story they want (e.g. want to make people think the socialist revolution will happen tomorrow, look at what women under 40 think; want to make everyone think Americans are heartless psychopaths, ask independents how Trump is doing on immigration; want to think absolutely nothing has changed, look at GOP approval numbers; etc.)

Look at a bunch of different polls and the directions they've all moved while reading them carefully to see precisely what they're measuring and how and it is absolutely undeniable that most Americans hate our president

  • That chart shows a TREND of a delta, not an actual approval rating

Really? I totally thought -20% of people approved of him, that would have totally made sense and been a real thing that could happen /s

So overall approval rate is 38% for the less educated it's 41%, that's the same as we've seen every fucking single time there's an approval poll.

Not true, you say it yourself

Trump was down to 32% approval at some point,

In one poll (which, btw, now has him at 30%, because different samples and different methodologies produce different results

If you look at the trend within basically every set of polls out there he has definitely gotten continuously less popular every month with everyone

e; Apologies if I was an ass in this or other comments in this thread, but the way that a lot of people talk about polls and how they're reported makes me lose my mind because I believe being able to have informed conversations about public opinion is really important to a healthy democracy and I think we have lost that a lot in the last 15 years and that's a big part of why everything is so screwed up right now

  • Real hard to imagine what isn't "roughly the same" if this is qualifying

  • Fuck misogynistic twerps and assholes who give flight attendants and other kinds of service workers a hard time, but this story would not be getting signal boosted by rags like the Daily Mail and New York Post if it wasn't a Muslim immigrant being accused

  • They think that no citizenship = no rights of a US citizen = no rights at all

George W thought the same thing about "enemy combatants." Because they weren't a member of a regular army no Geneva Convention protections, because they were outside the US no Constitutional restraints on the US's conduct.

  • There will be more bloodshed until Democratic lawmakers and like-minded people abolish ICE

  • For whatever it's worth, whenever I am finally able to understand thoughts that come from a way different context than my own it is super satisfying. It's like finding a hidden world that was underneath my feet all along.

  • "I have one main point I want to convey with five points of supporting evidence but actually each of those require arguing and some qualifications and point 4 is an essential part of the argument for point 1 and all of this reminds me of a funny conversation in a tv show that to me does a better job of explaining it but if you haven't seen it what's really important about that show is that it came out at the height of the War on Terror and -"

You probably stopped listening around the word "supporting" and I don't blame you for that

  • This headline is really underselling these poll results, for questions like these these support rates are crazy

Would you support or oppose changing the American health care system to a single payer system in which everyone was covered by a Medicare style system of health care?

    Support: 82.8%

    Oppose: 9.6%

    and

Would you support or oppose that change if knew you that anyone with insurance through their employer or negotiated by their union would no longer receive those benefits and would be moved to a federal health care system?

    Support: 66.5%

    Oppose: 21.5%

  • Sounds like a political science and economics problem, don't know why we needed to harass physics nerds about it

  • The directive to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, which was first reported by the New York Times, didn’t come down as written orders, two of the ICE officials told The Intercept.

Instead, said one of the ICE officials who works in the Mountain West region, the order came down through field office directors to avoid red tape associated with putting an official policy in place.

Great, so these orders will exist for as long as ICE wants to get friendlier headlines and instantly vanish into thin air the next time one of their agents murders somebody driving a car

  • And... who is going to... take them to jail?

If holding murderers accountable makes other criminal law enforcement implicate themselves in conspiracies to cover up those murders all the better. Gotta start somewhere and gotta clean the whole culture up, this shit we've been dealing with is unsustainable.
