  • There's a difference between handing kids chat gpt and telling them to learn and giving them ai tools designed around teaching children specific topics.

    My kid has to do math problems on a website each week. When he doesn't understand the problem he can click a help button that breaks the problem down for him. When he doesn't understand that, he'll ask his teacher who doesn't have time to break things down even further for him or loses patience with him when he still doesn't get it. So he goes on without understanding. A built in AI could easily figure out what it is he doesn't understand and then teach him that and work back to the problem he's working on.

    I think the "wait a year" approach is probably a good one to ensure they are giving the kids the right kind of AI. But a blanket "AI bad" statement I disagree with. I think kids that have access to these kinds of tools will end up better off than those without.

  • Gotcha so you're not disagreeing with any of the points I actually made about how AI can help individualize learning. Just that kids shouldn't be on computers or tablets in school.

    Well, I don't have anything to say about that as my kid has a chromebook and outside or using it for certain homework assignments, I don't think he uses it to learn. If he had some AI software on there designed for him to learn, I bet he'd get much more use out of it.

  • If internet searching and self learning matches you learning style, great for you.

    Personally, I have used AI for many development projects and have learned way more than I was ever able to by googling. Many times I'd take answers from stack exchange and ask AI wtf it meant and it would break it down in a way I could understand.

    Now apply this to middle school math and a student that just doesn't learn math like other kids.

  • TBD. I'm no fan of AI or especially the companies. But every kid learns differently and our schools are not built for some kids' learning styles. AI can customize for every single student.

    I feel like the ones that could benefit most from AI teachers are the ones in these huge classroom where the teachers can't give individual help. And AI would be perfect for these grades as the topics are much more basic and easier for AI to get right.

    Anyway, I don't think this'll be a popular comment, but I also don't think it's wrong.

  • Set your expectations. It's not Reddit (for better and worse). Reddit has subreddits for nearly every hobby you can think of. On here, you might be lucky to find a few that match your interests. But they might also be desert wastelands.

    I have faith in time this will change.

    For more than seven years, 10,000 public school students — almost entirely children of color — in the East Ramapo Central School District just 40 miles north of New York City have had lead in their school water fountains.

    In 2005 the area’s ultra-Orthodox Jewish majority — whose children almost entirely attend private yeshivas — organized and won control of the school board. In 2009, the new board began gutting the public schools, whose students are 95% Black and Latinx.

    The board eliminated hundreds of public school positions, including teachers, social workers, and more, while authorizing eye-popping millions of taxpayer funds to the district’s private religious schools, including door-to-door, gender-segregated busing for students.

    Among the ongoing obstacles to fixing the district’s problems is that the district’s religious-school voters consistently reject public school budgets. Over the past 15 years, school budget tax increases have failed 11 times in East Ramapo — more than any other district in the state.

    It's crazy that this can happen. In my kids school district, a guy keeps getting reelected to the board who's kids all went to private school. Thank God he can get the "Trans" books out of the library whole education has declined for years.

Their policies are entirely based on dishonesty and manipulation of people and real violence against people that don’t deserve it. Yeah, I hate that, but it’s not unreasonable. It’s also not my identity like they seem to imply.

  • There’s a lot of dumb sheep though. A LOT. Living in the south I meet tons of people that will casually throw out “voter fraud” and “illegals voting” all the time. They know it happens. And whether it’s a significant amount or not, it needs to be stopped. And democrats are throwing interference cause it benefits them.

    This is the argument. They don’t think it would change the results. Meanwhile, the politicians that are lying about voter fraud know that legitimate voters would be disenfranchised and that would change the results.

    I’m not saying we should forgive them for being idiots. Just good to know who we’re fighting against.

  • That’s why they are calling it voter fraud. In their eyes anybody can just steal a ballot out of somebody’s mailbox and fill it out and send it in. And nobody would know. So because it’s possible, it means the democrats are doing it and that’s the only reason they win.

    Keep in mind that even though Trump won in 2016 he said there was voter fraud that made it so he didn’t win the popular vote. They have been setting up this narrative for years if not decades.

    Of course the republicans in power know exactly what they’re doing and why.
