I've used ChatGPT to make a couple funny images. Since you can only generate one every couple days, even if it gets something wrong and you want to make a revision, "sorry I can't do that until your timer resets," it's just not really worth it to try, unless you pay I guess, but I don't want to pay for it. I've had it answer a couple questions that stumped Google, and it got them right, just a matter of, "we're hanging out and we have a debate that Google/IMDb can't easily solve" so we ask the chat bot, it gives the answer, we all agree it's good enough, then we move on.

If all the AI chat bots went away tomorrow, I wouldn't miss them. I use Apple tech and we have the worst AI platform. I'm in the iOS/macOS 27 beta with the "New" Siri, and it's not very good at all. I guess it's better than the old one? Still nothing to make OpenAI (ChatGPT) worry. Never used Grok or Meta AI, and I think I tried Gemini once? Never used Claude. Asked Copilot things at work. Not work related, even though we have "Enterprise data protection" turned on, which means it won't send your queries to the cloud or learn from you. I still don't trust it. Definitely don't like it. But it's an amusing tool sometimes. If it fucked off tomorrow, it wouldn't be soon enough, and nothing of value would be lost.

To those who didn't read TFA: he wasn't talking about anime like Boku no Hero Academia or Dragon Ball Z. He was talking about hentai.

The article confirms that Crunchyroll and a couple other anime streamers are available in Texas.

The guy was trying to access PornHub (or a site like it) to watch hentai, and that site simply blocks all Texans (and people from other countries and US states that have similar laws).

As for those asking if it's illegal: the US constitution does enshrine the freedom of speech, or rather, your government's inability to pass laws restricting said freedom. However, there are still exceptions. You still can't make threats to officials, or other things that can harm others.

Personally — my definition is any time you post something that isn't constructive to the topic (or the comm) with the intention of distracting others from constructive discussion (typically, by getting them to engage with you instead).

I think there's an art to it, and some trolling can be fun, as long as everybody's having fun. Personally, I'm not very good at it. I say what I mean and mean what I say. But I don't mind as long as it's fun.

My iPhone is pretty current from 2024, but my Android phone from 2019 isn’t much slower or less capable. It has less storage, but it has a memory card slot. There isn’t much it can’t do that the newer iPhone can, except for generate AI slop on device.

If you need AI, they’re gonna make you pay to play. If you don’t… just chill.

Now I say 360/PS3 because looking back, those games tend to have been the best. You had the Mass Effect trilogy, the more fun/silly Saints Row games, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, Oblivion and Skyrim, the best Grand Theft Auto to date (San Andreas) and the two before it... and the two after it... Just loads of great games came out on those systems. Going back on my XSX and looking at the sales on 360 games, it's insane how much game you can get.

Agreed, but I don't see anything to suggest that the leased phones are getting a special edition of iOS 27 that has the locks. I think what they're saying is that every iPhone running iOS 27 will have the locks, and they will be able to be triggered by third parties. That is worrying.

Nope. I'm on book 5 of Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's trash and I love it. Listening to the audiobook. That absolutely matters in this case. Hell, they got the audiobook narrator voicing Princess Donut for the live-action series. The cat is going to be voiced off-screen/dubbed in since, you know, cats don't actually speak, but we don't know how they're going to do the cat. I'm assuming some kind of CGI, since she wears glasses, a tiara, and has various other adornments. Not to mention shoots lasers out of her eyes.

Never got into the Holly Gibney books by Stephen King. I read the first two Mr Mercedes and Finders Keepers, but I couldn't get into the third one, so I didn't read the standalone ones, either. Also, I watched The Outsider on TV and thought it sucked, so I didn't bother with the book. Also, the subject matter makes me uncomfortable, so that's another barrier to entry.

I think I might read the Expanse series next. There are nine books in the series, and that's just the books. There are a bunch of short stories. The TV show adapted the first six books and some of the stories (as they provide background). There's a whole reading list for the series, and I have it ready to go whenever.

I also want to re-read the Vampire Chronicles series. I read Interview With the Vampire a long time (25+ years) ago, and after watching the AMC series, and watching the 1994 film again, I want to go back to the source material. I started The Vampire Lestat back then, but never finished it. I think I read it after seeing the movie, and I liked Claudia's story because the actress was about my age at the time. So it was hard to move onto the next one. I heard she gets more content later, though. (Worth noting that while in the movie she was 11 or 12, and in the AMC series she was 14, in the books she was five. Very different ages, very different personality types. So, very different characters.)

I went through a bunch of medication, mostly the wipes. Then I realised it was just drying them out, so I started wiping with isopropyl alcohol.

I don't select anything. I go where my current mood takes me. If I like something, I like it. If I want to hear it again, I save the music or add it to a playlist.

I'm from the MTV generation, we heard music on MTV and that got us to buy CDs. There was also rock radio. Rock radio doesn't really exist anymore, at least not in the west. Radio isn't free to run, so to run music, they have to run ads to pay the bills. When their bills go up, they either increase ad time (take away from the music), or they play cheaper music. So, slop like pop and country that costs them less. Streaming has similar bullshit. You add a song to your playlist. You go through the artist's discography to choose the song from the original album release — or maybe you go with the remaster. We're not debating that here. Either way, the song comes up on shuffle and all of a sudden it's from a soundtrack or Greatest Hits compilation. See, it's the same audio, but being from a compilation means it costs the streamer less, and they hope you don't notice/care about the album art. Generally if you set it back, they'll leave it be, but sometimes they'll change it again.

Anyway, rock music is kinda dead in the west (it's really not) because the venues promoting it (MTV and rock radio) no longer do so. So western (USA, UK/EU, Australia) rock is mostly indie these days. Or old timers hanging on. In the east though, business is booming. Anime is getting a lot of western eyes and ears tuning in, so they use the opening and ending themes to highlight music from their country. Streaming music from these bands and artists lead to more, similar Japanese songs. So for example ONE OK ROCK never did anime before, but I discovered them because I discovered Survive Said the Prophet via either Vinland Saga or Banana Fish and, hey, these other guys sound similar. (ONE OK ROCK has since licensed their song Prove to the children's anime Beyblade X, over a decade after becoming popular.)

Back in the day, yeah, I listened to my friends and what they listened to. These days I'll listen to a song I like, see what other playlists it's on (this is on Apple Music), and sometimes I'll play that playlist to see what they have.

I also run a music community (on the instance I'm on). I'm not 100% clear how to link them, and the guy running my instance has had beef with the people running .world (the instance this was posted on, the instance OP is a member of). So, out of respect for .world and for them allowing me to be here, probably best I don't? Even though I have no real part in that issue, whatever it was. Music can be, but isn't political for me. It's more spiritual, as in, I listen to music to soothe my spirit. Anyway, I run a music comm and I post a song every day. It's mostly western (American, European, or Australian) rock, or Japanese rock. There's like one country song. The first song I posted was Celtic (it's Enya), but, mostly it's rock. So you could say I don't have much variety. I dunno, I'm going through my favourites. And I'm telling stories with a lot of them. Anyway, the comm's open, I haven't messed with any of the settings (I don't even have a header image yet), so anybody is free to post whatever. Though, .world has a music comm as well. .world doesn't need your help, it's the biggest one, but I'd still always advise anyone on any instance to support your own instance. That's why I made a music comm, we didn't have one. Figured I could post on any other music comm (and maybe even be welcome to post daily), but... I wanted to support my own instance. And I wouldn't advise anyone else otherwise. But hey, if you wanna see what I've posted... it's just called "music" on the instance I'm on. Shouldn't be hard to find.
