  • So, I looked into it and .world uses the defaults for photo-rs. Looking at the default config file for photo-rs these appear to be the image hosting limits.

  • Oh man, I love good sandwich board art. That stuff is always my favorite. But yeah I get not every place has a creative employee who can spend time drawing that.

    However clean text on a poster or sandwich board is far superior to AI slop (both in a moral and eye pleasing sense).

    Also poorly drawn pictures can catch the eye just as well as well drawn pictures either because it can be humorous or because it’s eye catching (possibly in a bad way). But people do look either way, it’s why advertising works. I hate those stupid white billboards with black text that just say “Made you look”, because it works.

  • This isn’t even a matter of illiterate or literate.

    If someone is wearing a camera always assume it’s recording. There’s literally no reason to speculate on the owners intent or competency.

    Many webcams now ship with lens covers these days. You wanna take a guess why that is and why you might want a lens cover for an internet connected camera you own and control?

    Ignoring possibilities for malicious software being a concern, Meta having control over their product with an internet connected recording device with AI facial recognition bullshit baked in is enough of a reason for concern. And how often do we hear about company mishandling of data leading to private information leaking?

    Oops my camera was on, oh no. Why even leave an opening for a careless mistake like that to happen? At the least you’re asking for trouble.

    Medical exams can be scary enough for patients w/o having to worry about a camera on someone’s face pointed at them. Patients have a right to feel comfortable in a medical setting and it’s in doctor’s best interest that they feel safe so they can do their job properly.

    As for the “whatabout” hidden camera bs. Maybe worry about the one pointed at your face before you worry about the one you don’t see. If you don’t trust your doctor to not have hidden cameras maybe it’s time to find a new doctor?

  • Krita is a powerful, free and open source, digital animation tool where Gimp is a mainly focused on image manipulation.

    Check it out, it’s pretty cool and it’s got a huge community behind it. It’s also free.

  • Again, false equivalence. But sure city planning has been built around a car centric approach forcing you to use a car. Nothing however (except some short sighted middle managers maybe) is forcing you to use AI, or more specifically to use it to generate slop art.

    It seems to me you do care about how people feel, or more specifically how you feel about it considering I linked stats showing the majority of Americans are not using AI, but sure throw out sweeping generalizations based on your opinion and nothing backing it.

    I disagree with the comparison to digital art. Computer generated art takes skill, effort, and an artistic eye to succeed. Not just anyone can pick up a stylus or mouse and make good art, though it is a bit more accessible than some traditional mediums.

    AI on the other hand requires no effort or skill on behalf of the creator. Furthermore, any artistic style is just mimicry. AI models have scraped real artists work without permission and is being used to slap together plagiaristic content, no accreditation of any kind to the source.

  • I included the last article as to not skew information towards a particular viewpoint.

    One thing to note is the first couple links focus on adoption rates and hard numbers of users, where the last article is just an opinion poll.

    The first question shows about a 50/50% split in on people’s view towards AI, which has steadily grown in distrust since the 2021. It’s likely to assume that pattern will continue and distrust will tip towards the majority based on what’s shown.

    The second shows people overwhelmingly think it negatively impacts people’s ability to think creatively.

    The third shows people overwhelmingly think AI will harm all industries except when it comes to healthcare.

    The fourth shows most teens have used with many turning to it for homework including some using it to do all of their homework. That is a very concerning poll figure considering the harm AI has been shown to have on the learning process.

    I’m not going to spell the whole article out, read it yourself. But it doesn’t paint a positive picture towards AI

  • Last summer an author with the same name self-published 17 novels that were listed on Amazon, with one of them - Operation Inoculation - described as a “conspiratorial journey into vaccination truths”.

    The author’s biographical information describes him as an “enigmatic wordsmith from the bustling streets of Glasgow” and a “rising star of the literary world”.

    It continues: “With each stroke of his pen, Billy Coull crafts narratives that blur the lines between reality and fiction, leaving readers enthralled by the unpredictable twists and turns that lie ahead.”

    A reviewer of one of the books was not convinced, describing it as “absolute nonsense” full of “gibberish sentences” which had “all the hallmarks of being written by AI”.

    AI charlatans who want fame and success with none of the effort.

    Oh my god. THIS is what that image came from? Amazing.

  • The difference is schools teach you how to get to the answer on your own and a calculator becomes a tool.

    AI does not and just feeds you its best guess, passes it off as fact, and people take it at face value. It’s a glorified auto-complete machine.

  • Imagine you’re a 6-year old right now. Someone tells you, yeah, you could spend the next bullshit quantity of years learning to do basic math until you bitch about not knowing how to do taxes later in life. Or you could just use a fucking calculator that hands you the answers.

    Same thing with pen -> calculator-> computer -> phone

    Your argument is a shit one.

    AI isn’t progress.

    AI robs people of their ability to think critically and creatively.

    If it was just you dumbing yourself down I wouldn’t care, but it’s not. It’s a machine that steals others hard work and mashes it all together while it demands land and precious resources to feed it all so you can feel better about your lack of ability. It’s a masturbation machine for the unmotivated.
