On two occasions I have had negative interactions with FlyingSquid on the /world community, both times he has used, or threatened to use, his moderator powers against me, because of his personal disagreements with me.
I am happy to refer you to both conversations:
In this conversation, we had a long conversation about laws and politics. Personally, I feel he acted in bad faith on several occasions throughout our conversation, in my opinion, he was trying to bait me into getting upset so he could righteously ban me.

But you have just earned yourself the eye of a moderator who will not tolerate your rule-breaking with anyone else. Including if I see any in your recent history.

Again, in this conversation, he was, in my opinion, highly rude, dismissive and arguing in bad faith. He even admitted as much. I said I wasn’t interested in talking with him, he continued to push me for an answer, and then said:
You didn’t let me down, because I knew you didn’t actually have an answer
I completely understand that sometimes people get heated or struggle to deal with arguments where they care about the topic, so I am totally willing to look past that. However, I am not willing to look past his abuse of power.
What a bullshit cop-out. I have asked you multiple times what the next step is and you're now claiming I'm not interested?
That's two lies you've told about me now. That is coming close to trolling. This is seemingly a pattern for FlyingSquid - goading people he disagrees with into becoming frustrated with his bad-faith arguments, then accusing them of “trolling” when the people he experiences push-back, and using that as an excuse to ban someone he disagrees with.
I was writing a response to his post pointing out that he was arguing in bad faith when I accidentally submitted it half-way through, when he suspended me for “trolling”.
I do not believe that he has the disposition to be a moderator if he gets so upset at a polite discussion that he feels compelled to use moderator powers to silence dissent. I go out of my way to be as polite, kind and compassionate as possible and to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I do not believe we should allow those in a position of trust or power to use that to settle their personal disputes. I know there has been some issues with that recently regarding the vegan community so I am hopeful that you will do the right thing and either remove his moderator powers or at the very least let him know that his abuse of powers is not tolerated.
I would prefer not to make a community spectacle out of this, hence the email.

There is no established way to load WASM in your browser without JavaScript code that does it for you, so there actually is.
I thought you meant like you had to use Javascript to marshal between the WASM module and the user interaction. What you really meant is that you're objecting to, basically, a load call. One line of Javascript code to load and run the WASM module. What possible security risk could that pose?
And again, I've not heard an adequate explanation as to how locally-running JavaScript encryption code would be any less secure than, for example, running a Python script in the terminal.
Locally and in a browser are, in real life, mostly different things and I assume you know that.
I think you're basically admitting that you meant that verifiably secure encryption using a website is impossible (other than e.g. TLS), which I would agree with, but that's not what you wrote. Browser extensions are used all the time to handle all sorts of secure encryption in high risk scenarios, such as for password managers. That is a perfectly valid example of encryption within a browser - and it was the first one I mentioned.
Please just admit you were wrong, or that you meant to say "website" rather than "browser". It's okay, trust me, people respect you more when you can admit that sort of thing, it makes you look strong and capable of taking criticism.
I'm going to be honest, it feels like you might have some kinda superiority complex here... I'm sure BSDs are lovely and great and I'm really glad you enjoy using them, but Linux and BSD are both great options for people, and I'm glad they're both available.
I don't really care about the whole systemd conflict. All I care about is that I own my computer and I control all of the software that runs on it. If I wanted to, I could swap out systemd for init or sysV or whatever but I don't want to because I'm very familiar with it at this point, it works fine.
If I need BSD for something, I will certainly be more than happy to reach for it. Actually, come to think of it, I do use BSD - OpenWRT is BSD based I believe, and I have a few Wi-Fi access points/routers running OpenWRT.

I think you're mistaken, there. WASM is often used alongside Javascript, but beyond the one-liner to fetch and load it, there's actually nothing which inherently requires JS beyond that.
Can you explain why you feel that locally running Javascript is more insecure than using, say, locally running Python code, for encryption?

Why? Genuinely asking, I've never looked into it because I have no real incentive to try it. I've used NetBSD on a server before, and it was fine, but like, what reason would I have to move away from Linux? It works completely perfectly for all of my use cases.

Well, Docker is the archetypal example, though I'm sure there are plenty of others. I've never particularly cared to get into BSD, because I have no incentive to do so.

Who said anything about a website? You said browser. You can run fully-local resources in a browser, such as browser extensions, locally hosted tools, even just running in a .html file on your local disk somewhere. Javascript also isn't the only option available to solve this problem.
Oh -- in that case, because Linux is vastly more popular than any other alternative free operating system or system distribution, has infinitely more support options and software available than alternatives, and a much larger community/install base, meaning that if you have a problem or want some tool, it's far more likely to be available for Linux than any other free alternative.
There are so many reasons. Here's just a few off the top of my head:
- Windows isn't free, Linux is.
- Windows isn't an open platform, Linux is.
- Linux doesn't track your activity. Windows does.
- Linux doesn't come bundled with a bunch of shovelware crap. Windows does.
- Linux doesn't push cloud products onto you. Windows does.
- Linux doesn't use your hardware to force-feed ads to you. Windows does.
- Linux is infinitely more customizable than Windows.
- Linux lets you choose when, how, and if you download/install updates. Windows does not.
- Windows constantly pushes/forces AI slop products onto users. Linux does not.

This is gonna sound really terrible, but... I generally don't recognize people by name so much... maybe something dyslexia related? I think there are a couple of rare exceptions, like the user with two letters and then four numbers in their name.
I recognize lots of avatars, as I scroll around, but I don't generally register the names or even descriptions of the images, just kind of like... my brain just remembers purplish-blob shape, red glowy circle, monochromatic goblet.
