  • Hate to break it to you, but AppleTV really is the best option.

I haven’t tried it, but I would think that running something shitty like a Roku but gating it with a pi-hole would be reasonable. You just have to make sure that there’s no open networks within reach (neighbors, etc).

  • That’s ALL he had to do!

  • In addition to the great advice in this thread, as a dev you were probably working in one stack for those 7 years. When that happened to me, I realized that my skills were out of date. So I did some leetcode grinding to get current. Also, lots of jobs use leetcode-type screenings now, so best to get proficient there. It sucks but that’s the way it is now.

  • Gather ‘round kids, time for a story. The year was 2003, and TiVo had defined the category of DVRs and instantly become indispensable. People loved that they could fast-forward through commercials, much to the chagrin of networks and advertisers.

But a new competitor entered the scene: ReplayTV, a product that did everything TiVo did with one major added benefit: it automatically detected and skipped commercials without having to press a button. It was glorious. So naturally, like all things which improve the life of a consumer, the powers-that-be took umbrage. Funded by TiVo lobbying, the FCC decided that not having to press a button on a remote was a bridge too far. ReplayTV was crushed by a heavy fine and ban, relegating them to the tech scrap heap. Thus TiVo maintained their position as market leader, despite having an inferior experience.

All this to say: fuck you TiVo, you wasted your brand clout and position by getting into bed with the same lawmakers who fomented your demise when the HD era was legislated to ban commercial-skipping mechanisms.

  • I’m so glad I don’t waste my money on that shit

  • Same goes for getting over other fears. That huge roller coaster is a feat of engineering and thousands upon thousands of people before you rode it just fine. Going to that strange country is easy; so many people live there just fine.

  • ngl that looks like a pretty amazing place to live. Love that look

  • This is a deadly ignorant take. If every home has 2 EVs to charge, it won’t make enough of a difference to matter. It’s like leaving on extra lights. Residential solar panels are cheap and only getting cheaper.

Meanwhile, data centers have to build diesel turbines because the grid can’t handle their massive draw. But by all means blame the EVs.

  • If the robots could really replace the people, you’d see the robots smoking weed by the dumpster on their break. But you don’t, and that proves they won’t be able to make a good pizza.

  • Camacho, played to unhinged perfection by Terry Crews

… who is now starring in commercials for Ram trucks which bear an eerie resemblance to Camacho in the movie.

  • Do we really need more users though? Lemmy is like original Reddit right now which is much better IMO.

  • I just use wheels that will others have built and call it my car 😎

  • You’re taking my comment a little too seriously. I just know that what I do is essentially playing with other people’s legos, to make a CRUD app, to show my industry’s equivalent of cat pictures. I leave the heavy math and theory to the real computer scientists.

  • Yeah, software engineers are the sanitation engineers of programming. Source: am one

  • Reader mode, that often works

If not, leave or do Apple “hide my email”, verify, kill the temp email acct.

  • That one dipshit who uses the “thorn” instead of “th” in their posts.

  • So the software engineers who worked on the failed product get laid off, but not the people who decided to make the thing and directed its development. Cool cool cool

  • I’m in the “healthy” BMI range, thank you. I just hate having to work to maintain that. I would love to shovel as much food in my gut as I want; I spend most of the time thinking about my next meal. But I also understand that being overweight is a huge predictor of lots of other issues and like you said, an early death.

  • It was a joke and I’m sorry.
