    Good chance you've checked them out already. But in case you haven't, Satoshi Kon's works are all amazing. Paprika, Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers. If it has to be a series, I guess Paranoia Agent.

  • EDIT: Take this post with a big grain of salt. I couldn't verify the claim, because I couldn't find the twitter profile of the CEO (then and now) Richard Sanders. However, the company is ultimately controlled and owned by Block, Inc. (formerly Square inc.), where Jack Dorsey has a 79% ownership (2025). He's a billionaire, the twitter co-founder, Bluesky founder, and so on.

    I'm moving from Tidal asap. Because the CEO seems to be pro-genocide, at the very least.

    Claims I've seen here and some other shit elsewhere:

    Tidal seemed like a good alternative but it's problematic as well, as the CEO retweeted on X a few days after Oct 7th that said 'we stand with Isr'. I think he may have shared other pro-Isr posts since but perhaps deleted them. Deezer CEO also under fire for being part of a WhatsApp group with senior politicians etc about supporting Isr...

    The one decent alternative I have found is Qobuz, which I'm looking into – it seems to have a lot of variety in terms of music catalogue and I can't find anything 'problematic' about them (they don't operate in Isr). Also allegedly offers higher payout to artists than many others.

  • As I'm currently reading Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman, I literally can't help myself but post some excerpt. It's only 105 pages btw.

    One professor uses the book in conjunction with an experiment she calls an “e-media fast.” For twenty-four hours, eachstudent must refrain from electronic media. When she announces the assignment, she told me, 90 percent of the studentsshrug, thinking it’s no big deal.     I stopped reading the first time after this sentence. Which is a shame, because what you write otherwise seems well-balanced and reasonable for what you're focusing on.

    He also claims that the handlers (a term used for spy agent conspiracy theories)

    Sorry, this statement seems meaningless, or even misinfo, because the term is used in credible reports.

    For illegals, in-person meetings with their KGB handlers were rare, and usually took place in third countries...

    However, under certain circumstances they cut electricity to your property before raiding.

    A random idea, if the threat is really expected, would be to setup strong hooks in the walls, and attach criss-cross fishing lines or similar to buy time. It shouldn't be lethal or cause serious injury unless the intruders get really unlucky. But they're probably gonna be more pissed regardless.

    There are many thought experiments you can make where somebody doesn't take all the precautions in the world and something bad happens to somebody else.

    Please try to not to take unnecessary risks, or be reckless, but also don't blame yourself for the unjustifiable harm a third parties reacts with to squash dissent against their oppression.

    If I got fucked because of an unnecessary meme over an insecure channel, or similar, I'd think of my friend as stupid in that regard. But I would blame oppressors.
