  • I remember reading about some kind of an alternate DNS root servers. they have some unique TLDs (sounds risky though, the possibility of future name clashes). not too popular, but it is being used. I think this is it: https://opennic.org/

    that's besides the point. hard drives are very commonly used for large scale data storage. that is its intended use, and people are storing legible data on it, in practice. light switches? who the hack stores data on light switches, bit by bit?

    All you need to do, is allow an electrical signal to control the position of the switch, and you essentially have 1bit of data storage right there.

    the light switch is not something intended to store data, but the memory in your phone is. wiping the data destroys all the photos, media, logins, configuration on your phone, making them permanently and irreversibly inaccessible. and all of that is my property.

  • to me the reason I don't want a mouse is I need to move it on some surface for it to work, and even then it's handling is much less accurate than at the desk, and its a chore to target that little button on the screen. from this point keyboard based navigation would work better, in apps that implement it well. I can imagine using a keyboard, but most other people I know would not accept that, because it's too big.

    so far the best option I heard is a normal TV remote but with a keypad and trackpad on the back. but do those work with IR, are the signals of these buttons standardized?
