  • Your parents remember stuff? Every time I bring up an old story from when I was younger, my mom has no recollection of it whatsoever. She doesn't even remember what my first word was. Even if I went to her and admitted everything bad I'd ever done as a kid, she'd have no idea what I'm even talking about.

  • You say it's not relevant to the joke, but a realistic reflection wouldn't show a side-by-side depiction. The way it's portrayed here highlights the hair cut that the animal is upset about, which is key to the joke.

    It might not be realistic, but I see this as "artistic license," along with the other absurd elements.

  • A varied diet provides protein as well.

    Science time! Proteins are made up of amino acids. Certain chains of amino acids form "complete proteins," which are what most people think of as "protein." However, the constituent amino acids connect with each other in our bodies even if they're obtained from different sources. So two sources of "incomplete" proteins can still provide "complete proteins" if both are consumed. Which means it's a lot easier to get your protein from a varied, vegan diet than most people might think.

  • I've been staring at this picture for a few minutes and whatever's going on on the left side still doesn't make sense.

    First I see what appears to be a cardboard cat house, that's cute. Then behind it, the top cat seems to be sitting on a small wooden piece of furniture. Okay, so far so good...

    But then it looks like a TV or monitor behind the cats, and a cabinet behind the TV. The surface the top cat's sitting on seems to fade into everything else (I can't tell how wide that surface is at all.) And... that's where my brain breaks. Why is a TV between two pieces of furniture? Why is whatever the cat's sitting on in front of a cabinet, rendering the cabinet inaccessible? Or is the cat's surface somehow part of the cabinet? What is happening?

    Are we peeking into the secret cat dimension, where all of these things can occupy the same space without contradiction?

  • For real, take pictures with your friends while you can. I was friends with a guy throughout high school. But then he passed away suddenly at age 22. Only then did I realize we didn't have a single picture of us together. It was a horrible gut-punch.

    It seems like such a silly thing sometimes, but you never know what might happen, or what life might throw at you. You don't want to end up without a picture when it's too late to get one. :(

  • I don't know if that's true or not, though some color words are definitely older than others, so I can imagine it. Do you have a source?

    I'm reminded of how the word "orange" is relatively recent, and named after the fruit. Ever wonder why people with orange hair are called "redheads" even though their hair isn't technically red? From the links, "redhead" arose in the 1200s, while "orange" wasn't used to describe color under the 1500s. So "red" was the closest color descriptor at the time "redhead" was coined.

  • Yes, I agree. My advice is more for situations I’ve witnessed where a kid’s diet is dangerously limited (I knew a kid that, no joke, only ate chocolate chip Clif Bars. The family had to plan their vacations around places where they were sold.)

    But in most cases, just let the person be.
