Thanks for writing this! I've been trying to use my old samsung as a server. Have you trying using it to host a fediverse server? Do you think thats possible?
In Amharic, spoken in Ethiopia, you use the the formal you in formal settings (mostly work or legal related matters) or when speaking to an elderly person. The informal you has variations for women and men but the formal you is gender neutral.
A small device that you plug in and lets you self host with a simple sign up would be a game changer.
I dont have a lot of technical knowledge in self hosting and I've been trying and failing to host fedi services following the documentation and youtube tutorials, I know I will figure it out eventually but an easier solution would be nice as well.
It doesnt make sense to put in free labor (posting, commenting, sharing etc) for a commercial organization (reddit, instagram, etc). Using the fediverse makes more sense to me
This sucks. Hopefully this will push ppl to sign up to mastadon or to other atproto instances and move away from the main bluesky acct.
For anybody looking for mastadon instance i recommend mas.to and for an atproto alternative, I've been on blacksky.community instance for a few weeks now and I rly enjoy it
Okay, I didn't know ATproto had many parts that can be independent or dependent on each other. It would be nice if there was an easy way to check the level of independence of an instance
I don't use it much, but from what I understand ATproto used to super expensive to self host but now costs have fallen significantly and other instances outside of the main Bluesky instance have emerged. I think now the problem they have to solve is getting the users (who are something like 99 per cent on the main Bluesky instance) over to the other instances.
As I understand, its an ATproto instance separate from Bluesky. Racially self segregated is a weird phrase and a wrong assumption. You don't to black to join but is a focused on black cultures and communities
As a non technical person, I think any tool that would make local hosting easier for laypeople like myself is great! I hope everything works out for you and localhostinger becomes a thing. I particularly like the "The app store idea" version a lot!
Neil DeGrasse Tyson has a Phd in astrophysics and he has published a lot of papers. He is a scientist and a science communicator. Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye are not the same.
Thanks for the answer. This might be a dumb question but what does that mean exactly? Is Flipboard approaching the different media outlets and offering to share their content on Flipboard's instance? If so, what do the media outlets get out of using flipboard versus their own instance or a more generic instance like mastadon.social?
Thanks anyway. I will keep trying, I hope somebody else tries it and it works.
