  • the average person has no idea how to fix any of it. they have been voting back and forth for years, and nothing has changed.

    average people also deeply disagree on how to fix it. and above average people are more than happy to take average people's money to tell them how they are going to fix it, and use it to enrich themselves while doing nothing.

  • the system is fine as long as you have good insurance. the average person still has employer sponsored insurance that is fairly decent.

    the shitty part of the system is those who are getting bad insurance. which is mostly those who are getting it outside of employer insurance. large employer insurance has lower rates because it's a bigger pool of purchasing power. it's small employers and independence insurance that screws people over.

  • Everything is normal.

    It's always been this way. You're just upset you have to be confronted with it rather than having it be hidden and silent. Protestors have always been killed or hurt. Immigrants have always been persecuted.

    And everyone is political, they just don't care to make it a everyday of every moment facet of their identity, activist do. Most people are not, and never will be, activists. And that's fine.

    And you don't win average people over by screaming, crying, and lecturing them how awful they are for not being 'as upset' as you are. Or why they aren't 'doing anything'. You push them away from your cause.

  • you can't accommodate everyone. one of the biggest problems with our current education system is exactly that we are doing this and it's gutting education.

    people are going to fail. they need to fail. that is how they learn. some people are smarter, faster, stronger than others, and we need to celebrate that fact rather than pretend it's an evil to be eliminated.

    education is systematically failing because we are trying to squeeze blood from stone. and the expectations on all sides are completely out of whack. but nobody wnats to 'go back' to the stuff that worked because it's considered 'oppressive'. which was pens, paper, and respect for educators. technology has overwhelmingly been a disaster for education.

    my film education had required viewings. as in we once per week we had to go to the cinema and watch the movies and attendance was required. if you didn't attend the viewing you got marked down. you typically only watched a movie on your own if it was a project you were working on for a paper, because you had to do repeated viewings.

    i don't expect my car to tell me the purpose of life. i expect it to get me places.

    and the purpose of film class is to teach you how films work as a medium and learn to analyze them as such. not to entertain you.

    and think think anything that doesn't pander to them is stupid and worthless and they see no point in it existing.

    people failing to understand the universe doesn't' revolve around them and their opinions. almost as if there are other people out there with different opinions and some of those people have far more informed opinions than their own.

  • everything is being done by committee now, and a lot of art films aren't made for the art anymore, the are made to be award bait. same with a lot of indie stuff too. hence why so many of the oscar nominees pander to identity political correctness.

    it's just how the internet works. angry people post and reply a lot more than non-angry people.

    and angry posts tend to be shorter, easier to comprehend, and induce more angry responses.

    thoughtful and non-rage takes don't drive engagement from people. it mostly bores them.

    people come to be entertained, more than anything else.

  • there are plenty of home computers for sale for under $500. i'm on a $700 laptop right now that's 4 years old.

    they just can't run modern games. i can run 2d games just fine or old games.

    the gaming crowd seems to forget that most computers don't use integrated graphics and a $1000 PC is a luxury purchase.
