  • The biggest problem we are facing with a general strike is that there aren't enough people that can easily put their life on hold without sacrificing everything they have. People keep screaming "general strike!" to a bunch of people that live paycheck to paycheck. The best we can do is get the ball rolling right now for those that can't.

    Personally I'm just sick of apathy at this point. Of course this general strike will not be enough. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.

  • I remember last year when there was a trend of AI generated videos that depicted animals or people doing ridiculous and crazy things on doorbell cameras. Everyone was surprised at how realistic they looked but never questioned why there was enough training data of doorbell cameras to make them in the first place.

    Not that relevant, but it makes it pretty clear how "private" this data was in the first place.

  • When lurking on conservative parts of the internet I've seen that the vast majority of them are against attacking Greenland and think this whole thing is stupid.   • What's crazy is that they aren't just doing this because they make more money with AI. They're doing this because these AI companies have basically pre-ordered a fuck ton of components that have not been manufactured yet to be put into computers that haven't even been made yet for datacenters that are not even built yet all on an electrical grid that hasn't caught up. As long as the manufacturers get paid they don't really give a shit, but this is so unsustainable it would be hilarious if it weren't so catastrophic for the rest of us. And as long as the line goes up as they all circle jerk their money around they'll all be happy and can pretend the economy is good.

  • People on the right are saying that when he puts his phone down to pull out his gun that that's when he gets hit by the car. It's like they've forgotten every other video out there and assume this is bodycam footage so the camera moving automatically means he's getting hit. A lot of people are saying that the audio was tampered with too so I wouldn't be surprised if they added some sound effects to make it seem like he got hit full force.

    The lack of critical thinking is honestly insane.

  • I didn’t go looking for evidence for obvious reasons, but I find reports that it’s generating CSAM plausible.

    This has been my biggest concern whenever I hear of generative AI doing these things. Grok is getting the training data from somewhere and has enough of it to generate these images on demand. You can't even get most generative AI models to show you a glass of wine filled to the brim because it has no training data for such an image but it can generate CSAM no problem.

  • Nobody in the AI industry, tech, or government cares. He says all the buzzwords and gives them all what they want. What he says is basically irrelevant at this point. Until something actually happens we're all gonna read about some sort of "gotcha" moment every day as if it makes a difference so we can have our rage moments and move on after we get our dopamine hit by calling him a moron.

    Not talking shit on anyone here, I'm just tired. And I'm tired of seeing a similar headline day after day as if it changes anything.

  • The problem is that they believe what they want to believe, not what he actually says or does. It's like a game of telephone where nobody actually fact checks each other. One person sees a speech by Trump that says he's going to solve affordability by defunding stuff that he doesn't care for or doesn't benefit from. He tells his friends and coworkers that Trump is going to solve affordability but barely mentions how. Those friends are also conservative so they don't ask for more details they just say "hell yeah, about time" and then move onto the next topic without elaborating. Next those people tell their friends the same thing and if they get asked how they just say "I don't know, it's just what x was saying."

    Fast forward a few months and it's election day now everyone associated with that person, some of who don't spend a lot of time on the internet so they aren't really up to date on current events, have this vague idea that Trump will solve their problems. They're too busy with their own lives and never get a good opportunity to do look things up or actually research what candidates are doing what, but they heard Trump had some good ideas and they've voted for Republicans before, so why not?

    This is the reason why republicans and Trump love the poorly educated and love making life expensive. It makes people so caught up in their own bullshit and so uninformed that they make poor decisions because they either don't have the time or don't understand what's going on.

  • Honestly, I don't really trust polls at all. Just like with every statistic these days you'll get a completely different result depending on who you ask. It seems every 2 days he goes from underwater to above average and it's getting pretty old as a clickbait title. I'm pretty sure I read the exact opposite kind result for a poll just last week.

  • Imma put on my tin foil hat for second and say that I'm pretty sure them being incompetent and eventually fired was always the point. They were used just like the rest of MAGA to do the "dirty work" of dismantling the institutions. Now that they have fucked it all up they can bring someone in that is competent to "save" it but will intentionally rebuild these institutions to serve the purposes of the Heritage Foundation and tech bros. These guys were just used for their stupidity to make room for the smart people that can actually build the fucked up systems that they want.

  • Well, it is actually. Literally everyone told you this would happen. The problem isn't that you "didn't vote for this," the problem is that you voted for something that never existed. Ask any Trump supporter what they voted for and 8 out of 10 times they have made up their own reason that specifically fits their viewpoint and even contradicts what Trump himself said he would do in most circumstances. In their anger towards "liberals" and "woke" they basically created their own idea of what Trump was based on nothing but vibes and then voted for that idea as if it was what he actually stood for. It's a religion and based on faith, not a political party. Like when "Christians" make shit up from the bible to fit their arguments even when it doesn't make any sense.

  • It's starting to reach the point where I don't really find this funny anymore and I just find it sad. Kinda like when you see an older person get scammed out of thousands of dollars by one of those IRS or tech support scams. Fear makes people do stupid things. I get it, this is what they voted for. And yes, a lot of MAGA are legitimately Nazis and deserve all the hate they get and more. But some of these people just got scammed plain and simple. When I see someone get scammed out of their life savings I don't just laugh at them and say "I told you not to fall for those IRS scams. Jesus Christ you are so fucking dumb." No, I get pissed at the scammer that took advantage of them. Fuck all those people that are actual Nazis, though.

    The fact that we see so many people having regret is a good thing. I'd rather have people that realized they fucked up then people that are doubling down and defending everything Trump is doing.

  • My guess is that they don't quite have the resources to do anything about it but are more than happy to let everyone know they are doing it to scare people. We've already seen how abysmal their ICE recruitment numbers have been and I highly doubt they'd be able to do anything against more than 50% of the entire population with what they currently have.
