  • Depression is one of the hardest things I've ever talked to people about. People that don't get depressed don't get it. People that are they themselves depressed can enable bad behavior. People that don't believe in depression (thanks dad) think that you are over reacting. And people that want to help are usually the ones that don't really get it either and don't know how to help.

Of course there is a bias towards negative experiences as when you are depressed those are the ones that stick out the most. But it still seems like bringing it up to people is such a mixed bag that most people end up internalizing it which only exacerbates it and continues the cycle of hiding emotions (I'm speaking from a male perspective if it wasn't obvious).

And as someone that has been horribly depressed at various parts of my life I honestly can't even give any good advice since those parts of my life are such a blur. All I know is that one day I was just okay without even realizing it. Sure I still get depressed from time to time, but I think the part that has changed most about me is my perspective. These days instead of focusing on the feelings of depression I focus on what is causing the depression. Sometimes there is no cause and I just have to deal with it, but most of the time I can figure out what is currently doing it and try and mitigate the issue if I can. And if I can't, I'll try and distract myself when I have free time instead of sitting inside my head.

Everybody's journey is different and I recommend taking what I say with a grain of salt. I was able to face my demons by myself but I know I'm more of am exception rather than the rule. If you think you need help, you probably do. And I recommend help from a professional or someone close to you that has had similar life experience in the past. Talking about it may not seem like it helps sometimes but it really does make small dents over time. And speaking about it out loud can really help you work through something and put it into words instead of generic thoughts floating in your head. It's why a lot of artists and musicians poor their emotions into their work. It's easier to work through things in the real world than it is with the abstraction of ideas that is your mind.

And believe it or not, the advice of "drink water and do yoga" is less about the actual activities and more about letting your mind and body do something else besides be depressed. Pick a different activity that you actually enjoy and just see where it goes. The worst that can happen is that you are still depressed but have a new hobby. And, let's be real, none of us drink enough water.

  • Now you're gettin' it. 😎

  • You can have a selfie of my ass with a face painted on it, how's that?

    Edit: spelling

  • It's the same reason for people that get most of their news and information from influencers and podcasts that are usually scummy. Confidently incorrect people getting information from confidently incorrect sources. Psychologically the human brain is more likely to believe something if it's said with confidence and accuracy comes second.

  • Exactly. So many jobs in my early 20s where I'd work my ass off, get thrown into a manager position, gain substantially more responsibilities, and then end up making less money than half the staff a year later.

  • Currently at the office on a Monday morning after they fired they guy above me a few months back and are now expecting me to not only do my job but his job as well. They raised my pay by $1 an hour, by the way. Jokes on them because I'm putting in exactly as much effort as one should while expected to do two peoples jobs for low pay and it's not that much work at all.

  • I'm so tired of rich white people telling me I don't work hard enough as I literally work my life away. I'm sure basically everyone that reads this comment has worked more in the last 5 years than these people have worked in their entire lives.

  • Best case scenario it splits the republican voter base up a little bit. They have enough clout in their own circles to actually make a dent. I think one of the biggest reasons republicans won is because they are so unified in their hatred at the moment. Meanwhile, democrats are constantly divided on everything and can't even agree with most of their voter base on a single topic. They're all still garbage people, but I'd like to see them punch each other for once instead of always punching down.

  • In my entire life I've seen one accident involving an immigrant truck driver whereas I've seen car crashes involving pissed off or entitled white people more often than I can count.

  • I guess what I mean by dumb is that it's surprising they even kept it a secret as long as they did based off their incompetence. Supervillains in cartoons are better at hiding their secret societies.

  • I mean, we all kinda figured there was. The shocking part is how dumb they are.

  • The company I work for is currently in the process of switching from our own server and email client to Outlook and OneDrive. It's gonna be a fucking nightmare when we switch.

  • It's something that I try to emphasize to people that are pro-life these days. If you 100% believe that abortion is murder and that every life is secred, I wholeheartedly respect your opinion even if I disagree with you. But something pro-life people need to realize is that the majority of men on the pro-life side do not give a single fuck about whether or not abortion is murder and they just want to control what women do. What they are saying has absolutely nothing to do with what they actually believe and they're just using your vote to push their own agenda. Saying "abortion is murder" is just the Trojan horse they use to force you to have their children even if you die.

  • Or if Netanyahu is the fall of Trump and Vance by releasing all that blackmail they got regarding Epstein. Let's hope they eat each other.

  • For real. Y'all realize that celebrating when the government goes after someone you don't like with obviously bogus claims is exactly what MAGA celebrates, right? Like, I don't like Newsom either but we shouldn't celebrate a rogue DOJ under any circumstance.

  • Somehow I highly doubt Kirk had any significant impact on his life or decisions in any way whatsoever. Republican politicians and especially MAGA politicians never really cared about Kirk, they just liked that he would help them convert young people. That's how they all think. They don't give a shit about each other and only see eachother as a means to elevate themselves even after they are dead. Just like none of them even give a shit about Trump and are only using him to push their own individual goals. It's why they flip flopped so hard even as "never Trumpers." They are all selfish and in it for themselves, it just so happens all their goals align at present.

  • Identity verification, not age verification. You would have to give anyone on the internet access to your identity.

I'm just sick of seeing "age verification" plastered all over the internet when that's not what it's about.

  • I had this weird syncronisticity a few years back where at least once a week I'd look at the time it it'd be 4:04. I'd often say "404: Time not found" and literally nobody ever got it so I started just saying it in my head instead.

  • The majority of international airports in the US lie within sanctuary cities. The majority of legal immigration in the US occurs within sanctuary cities through said international airports.

I thought they were only punishing those that were illegal? /s

Did you know the world was protesting against Trump on inauguration day? Or was this news hidden from you?
