  • It's cringey but maybe because I never really took imaginary points and likes seriously.

  • It's going to sound so wrong, but back when Snow White was first written, it was during the time when child marriage was acceptable and there is no middle stage known as teenagerhood (it's a very recent concept in human history). As soon as you could work, you would be considered an adult even if you are 12. If anyone has read the book or seen the movie The Master and Commander (which is set during the Napoleonic Wars, same time as when Snow White was published), there are naval cadets who are like 12 and 15 years old, and the much older ablehands refer to them as "sir". That is a historically accurate depiction.

I'm not making excuse by the way, but it explains a lot as to why older stories have very weird portrayal of underage characters because it reflected the social norms at the time. Many fairy tales in their original forms are very brutal and no-holds barred because people back then grow up way too fast as expected by society. And the gruesome reality of living, without the modernity we take for granted today, had to be faced by most folks in the past. Child mortality rate was high after all.

  • Absorbing other companies is illegal under anti-trust, but taking a company as a subsidiary is not, which is the workaround for anti-trust. It gives the false illusion of competition being available.

  • Same here. Technically, jaywalking is illegal but the police does not enforce it.

  • Now that you mentioned it, there aren't enough traffic and new content in PeerTube which dissuaded me from checking back.

  • The sticky bit (pun intended) is what would be considered inappropriate in the bedroom that should be deemed be illegal? Hardly a police will watch the act and say "Oh that's a shocker. That's a $500 fine for you."

  • Looks like more content creators will migrate to Nebula. Or people's Patreon will get flooded with more donations.

  • The right wing elites and their billionaire donors captured social media for propaganda.

  • While I can't speak for others, as an immigrant, there are times when i hear of news of immigrants committing crimes and in my mind I say "oh jeez you are making us look bad!" Eventually, it dawned on me that one of the reasons as to why immigrants throw other immigrants under the bus is because the former think it's signalling to locals that "we're one of the good ones. See! Please don't hurt us." It's like with any oppressed groups where they occasionally feel the need to sacrifice some of their members to the oppressors in the vain and pathetic attempt of self-preservation. It is a similar thing with "Jews for Hitler" group.

  • Google used to be "hey, we're different. We listen to our employees and "don't do evil!"

Who would have thought that if money is the bottom line, companies eventually do evil. I'm not surprised about what turned out. Enshittification is real.

  • The picture is beautiful and captured how big and grandiose the dam is. New Vegas didn't manage to make the dam awe inspiring. There is a rumour of remaking New Vegas and hopefully that they re-skin and enlarge the scale of the dam.

  • And do they think Trump and Project 2025 will care about their opinion? Even if Trump leaves, the technofascists imprinted themselves all over the US institution. Next project will be Project 2060, war with China. And then finally, Project 2077-- which is to blow up the world for fiduciary responsibility. Enclave is real, boys and girls!

  • I came up with a 20-30% rule. Roughly each quarter of population is always divided into different political camps. It's not what I experimented and surveyed on but it's what I have always observed in terms of voting patterns since history, especially in Europe. The Nazis won only about a quarter of voting population but they had to form a coalition to form a government. Similarly, the various Spanish left wing parties also had to form a coalition with each other before the Spanish Civil War, until the losing right wingers staged a coup to take power sparking the civil war.

If we look at the voting pattern as well in the previous American presidential elections, only 60% of eligible voting population went to the polling booth. More than half of those who voted elected Trump while the other remaining elected Kamala. So, of those who voted, about 30-35% elected for either candidates. Those who did not vote comprise 40% and they did not do so for various reasons. It's safe to assume that of those 40%, half are either liberal/left or right/conservative who did not feel energised by either Kamala or Trump and would rather elect their own preferred candidate (Sanders, Jill Stein, Haley etc).

Those are just my guesstimate but it roughly correlates with voting patterns in various countries if ranked choice voting and proportional representation happens. Even though some countries with no ranked choise and proportional representation, about one quarter of people are of certain inclinations. So, it is unsurprising that 30% of Americans are fascists supporting Trump. Those adjacent or apologists of Trump may not be outright fascists, but are enablers or useful idiots.

  • AMD is an industry leader with a huge economic moat and I think they will be okay when the bubble pops. I'm not sure about Nvidia though, despite having superb chips, because the problem is they loaned to companies to buy their chips. So, Nvidia's finances will be strained because Jensen Huang created a ponzi scheme that could not repay or be profitable to itself.

  • US is the only country that i know of that institutionally deny climate change because the Republican party, with their corporate donors, is still considered a viable political party by Americans. And they won't do such a thing if there aren't enough people who don't believe in climate change.
