  • Battery life and weight. That’s what keeps me from getting a pc handheld. Although the switch 2 is so big I don’t know if that holds true anymore

  • I haven’t had that experience here. I’ve had some unpleasant dustups with some leftists here but beyond having comments removed for being pro capitalist by .ml admins, I haven’t had any issues with moderation. Sure I’ve been heavily downvoted but I’ve never gotten banned.

  • If you want a place with no bans, then start up your own instance. Nobody can ban you. Sure they could defederate from you, but they couldn’t ban you.

If you want a platform that can’t ban anyone AND can’t block anyone, well you could make your own platform but I wouldn’t expect many to join you because nobody wants that.

We have the freedom to say what we want. We don’t have the freedom to force people to hear it though.

  • Or you can just use f-droid and research in advance if the application you need is on on f-droid and let that influence your purchasing decisions.

  • I’ve been very recently rewatching the pure pwnage series. Such a nostalgia trip, not just because the videos themselves but the era they took place in too

  • They made a whole musical about this called “Singin’ in the Rain”

As far as my opinion goes. “I can’t stan ‘em”

  • Exactly the reason I left. I was so pleased when Apollo for Lemmy in the form of wefwef/voyager existed too

  • Using a SSG such as Hugo, you don’t write HYML. You use Markdown. Which is the same format that you use for posts on Lemmy. You don’t get the full MS Word of the formatting gamut but in exchange your posts look the same anywhere you put them that uses Markdown.

In fact there is someone that made a front end that literally uses Lemmy as the backend for your posts.

    1. If db0 was added to the tankie triad it wouldn’t be a triad anymore
    2. db0 is an anarchist not a communist. Lemmy world has some tankie users too, but it’s clearly moderated to be a liberal instance and that’s why the majority of users there are liberal. .ml has plenty of liberal users too, but it’s still tankie. The tankie triad is based on the admins, not users
  • We live in a society

  • Is the predatory advertising that Apple allows towards children in apps that Apple allows on their app stores going to be stopped by this bill, or does this only affect their competitors?

  • If you tell the o3 reasoning model to just search the web and give you the top results instead of answering your query it can actually be really useful for obscure queries. I was able to find specific spec sheets for my model of monitor when a google search would only produce the specs for basically any other model the manufacturer made. Even with the model number in quotes

  • You get what you pay for and your local business is going to provide customer service that is most likely worth the markup

  • I’d agree with others that have said to use a framework like Hugo to serve an RSS feed. I wrote an automation using Google apps script to scrape blog pages and manually update the RSS feed but it was more trouble than it was worth. Letting your framework automatically update your feed is much easier.

  • That’s strange, having bridged my account to both, I actually feel the opposite. I have way more engagement on the Mastodon side to the point where I forget I bridged my account to bluesky.

I mean it certainly helps that all my posts are tech and retro gaming related but still

  • I agree with you in part, but I find just wanted to put the footnote that good moderation isn’t censorship (unless it’s literally being used to suppress alternative viewpoints). Good moderation is just reminding everyone of your grandmother’s rule that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it all. And there is nothing wrong in joining an instance like that and doesn’t make your instance an echo chamber.

  • I think it’s probably cheaper in the long run to self host a tree instead, unless you live in an apartment with absolutely no green space. But I’d rather get a VPF and host a tree there if I had too
